@QuattroMKII@HahaISaidFarts@wilfordBRT You're talking about Hebrew debt servants, but the Bible is very clear about foreign slaves. It says you can buy them, and OWN them as PROPERTY for LIFE, and pass them down to your children as PROPERTY for LIFE.
@Hunsenbargen@sergio103040@ShitpostRock If I was an omniscient God, and I knew that slaveowners would use verses like these for hundreds of years to justify slavery, I would have removed them and replaced them with a simple DO NOT OWN SLAVES. What about you? Would you have left them or fixed them?
@sola_chad Alexander the Great had contemporaneous coins, stelae, inscriptions, cities, foundations, sculptures, portraits, clay tablets, arms and armor with his name, and monuments dedicated to him, *during his life*.
@SharonFlem1979@OwnerSomal56346@JenResistedAGN If you or your family get drowned, or enslaved, or tortured in flames, or if your people get genocided, or if every first-born in your family and town get killed, then maybe you'll realize how evil you, your God, and your book of Lies is.
@OwnerSomal56346@JenResistedAGN I don't believe he exists, but I definitely know better than the authors of that horrific book.
I'd at least not drown everybody I just created, or command genocide, or slaughter first-borns, or create a hell, and I'd replace Don't Eat Shrimp with DON'T OWN SLAVES.
@JennMGreenberg It's the same consistent answer... Doesn't matter what we personally think, the choice is the mother's. The alternative is giving up our autonomy to the government so they're in control. Keep your Big Government off our bodies and out of our lives.
@OwnerSomal56346@JenResistedAGN A God that drowns millions, commands genocide, gives instructions on how to own people as property for life, and creates an eternal torture chamber to burn people for not being convinced, is pure evil. No decent person would worship that monster, even if he existed. Sick.
@David_Kicinski@JenResistedAGN You can ask yourself, would I like to drown? No? Then maybe drowning millions of women, children, little puppies and little kittens is a bad idea. If you need a God to tell you not to cause harm, that's not morality, that's obedience.
@jeru_complete@_ManiNEsS_@tadgh_dc Again, can you explain to me how giving specific instructions on how to buy slaves and own them as property for life in any way "condemns slavery"? I condemn and disavow that verse. Can you? Almost seems like you're justifying biblical slavery.
@jeru_complete@sailorwild@_ManiNEsS_@tadgh_dc - Didn't answer the question.
- It wasn't Christian culture, but the Enlightenment and liberal values that got us here.
- Philemon was about one specific slave.
- God could've said "DON'T OWN SLAVES". Instead we had 400 years of slaveowners using the Bible to justify slavery.
@TStudite826@jeru_complete@_ManiNEsS_@tadgh_dc My standard for decency/morality is the reduction of harm. Is yours divine command?
If God commanded you to enslave your neighbors and murder your family, would you do it? If your answer is, "God would not command that", you're admitting God has a standard that's not his own.
