Lol! It's a made up number. There would literally be NO world economy if not for fossil fuels. Zero. We'd be hunter/gatherers.
That said, I went solar, EV, ebike, eLawn, etc, more than 10 years ago. But the answer is not to have taxpayer's subsidise "green" energy, then have politicians like Levin lie to us every day that it's cheap.

The bottom 50% are not paying $1.7 in payroll taxes, it's much much less. First, it is a 50/50 split with the employer, so ~$800M is paid by workers. Then, the upper earners pay about half of this.

What "point". He said "income tax", I said "income tax", that is the subject matter, no dishonesty, then I showed you that the income tax funds half the government. So the rich, by far, fund the government. Fact, not deceit.
You are likely referencing SS tax, managed as a trust. Which, if you take out the fraud/waste, is not as broken as it seems but certainly the rich will be paying more when it's updated.

Bezos is referring to income taxes and I provided relevant factual data. What's dishonest? It's provided by the treasury dept. After the Trump tax cuts the bottom 50% are paying even less. The bottom 25% actually pay less than zero, they get credits back.
No matter how you slice it, the rich are paying their share but I don't deny the wealth gap is a huge problem.

Piling 100's of billions of subsidies on the national debt is not the way to reduce rates. Levin & the democrats keep lying to us "green is cheap" when our taxes are paying for the capital cost.
He'd have much more creditibility if he would simply state: "taxes are paying half the capital cost so lower rates should be passed on" (doesn't seem to be true in CA tho)
Then add in the fraud and waste of those entities receiving the highly subsidized build contracts.
