MEMPHIS WOULD BE GREAT FOR THE BIG 12:
I've been saying this for 2 years, but after some fun calls last week going through data with the guys from @memBig12, I'm more convinced than ever that UM would be a smart addition for the #Big12, and worth any strategic investment needed:
@brianmctaggart @memBig12 That could be the case. There r tons of factors that should be considered in realignment. But Memphis is a good/great research university, better than most according to Carnegie. Academics are not correctly portrayed. If that was the *only* hang up, there should be no discussion.
@memBig12 when they hit you with the “Memphis isn’t up to the academic standard of the big 12,” please refer the the Carnegie rankings. Memphis is an R1 institution. This is ahead of both TCU and BYU and on par with the rest of the big 12.
@brianmctaggart @memBig12 My comments are only about academics, and the usn&wr rankings are less reflective of overall academic excellence than the Carnegie institute tier rankings where Memphis is included in the top tier as an elite research institution and ahead of a couple of current big 12 schools.
@brianmctaggart @memBig12 Tier 1 research institution. The money spent on research, the number of doctors produced, the depth and quality of the research professionals is world class and ranked by the Carnegie Institute in the top tier (and ahead of two big 12 schools). Stamped by Carnegie as elite.
“R1 universities are at the forefront of research and innovation, and they receive federal and/or private funding specifically for their academic research. The Carnegie Foundation has classified approximately 146 U.S. institutions as having R1 status.”
