My favorite Lindsey Graham memory comes from a conference call in mid-December 2020, during the Georgia Senate runoff campaigns, when I was serving as Chairman of the Georgia Republican Party.

We pitched him on a get-out-the-vote project that would cost $75,000. He listened carefully, asked a few sharp questions, and then, in that unmistakable South Carolina drawl, said, “I am sending a hundred thousand. Merry Christmas!”

Lindsey was one of the strongest supporters Georgia Republicans ever had — often more generous than some of our own elected officials who directly benefited from his help. He established a joint fundraising committee with us, the Peach Palmetto Fund, and promoted it on Sean Hannity’s show. He also headlined our 2021 Presidents Day dinner.

At a Republican National Committee meeting, I once joked that before becoming State Chairman, I had never met Lindsey Graham in person — yet, like most grassroots Republicans, I had enjoyed a 30-year love-hate relationship with him. During my four years as Chairman, that pendulum swung decisively to love.

Rest in peace, Lindsey Graham. You were a true friend to @GaRepublicans.
