Avoiding Absolute Absurdity

Song of Solomon describes a bride’s hair like a flock of goats or her neck like a tower. But if we take these words literally, we end up with absolute absurdity!

If a passage clearly uses poetic imagery or metaphor, it can’t be treated as literal narrative. Otherwise the author's intent will be totally missed. 

Conversely, when a passage makes logical sense, there is no reason to do away with its logical meaning. Learn how to master the use of sound logic, and then you will know whether or not the text demands literal or symbolic interpretation.
