Scripture speaks through distinct literary genres — whether it be legal codes and historical narratives, poetic wisdom, gospels, parables, or apocalyptic prophecy. 

Each genre requires its own specific interpretive approach — reading an epistle is inherently different from unpacking a parable or an Old Testament narrative.

Recognizing these structural frameworks ensures that we do not allegorize literal covenant promises or misapply historical directives. That way, we can keep our End-Times perspectives precise.

Avoiding Absolute Absurdity

Song of Solomon describes a bride’s hair like a flock of goats or her neck like a tower. But if we take these words literally, we end up with absolute absurdity!

If a passage clearly uses poetic imagery or metaphor, it can’t be treated as literal narrative. Otherwise the author's intent will be totally missed. 

Conversely, when a passage makes logical sense, there is no reason to do away with its logical meaning. Learn how to master the use of sound logic, and then you will know whether or not the text demands literal or symbolic interpretation.
