I think Canadians really need to understand this message.

Trump is not Canada's problem. Trump is the straw that broke Canada's back

Canada's issues stem from decades of mismanagement across all of our governments.

- We have internal trade barriers worse than the tariffs we get from external countries.
- We have limited supply chain routes across our country.
- We've never diversified our export markets.
- We have heavy regulation stopping us from building or extending permitting times essentially indefinitely.
- Our bureaucracy is expanding while our services are diminishing.
- We spend taxpayer money without accountability or outcome-driven plans.
- We think we're morally superior to the rest of the world.

Canada can be fixed, 100%. I believe that but it would take us actually looking inside of ourselves and realizing that we need to change how we govern/manage our country and the vast (unrealized) wealth we have.

Canadians are outraged on the wrong part of the US-Venezuela annoucement.

Canada oil production will continue to hit records.
This is not the risk.

At peak, when Venezuelan's fields will be developed to restore/new capacity, years down the road, it will equal roughly half of the imports from Canada (current + future).

The risk is that it can displace some Canadian barrels but not all of them. Still will be devastating if the US would want to go that way.

Here is what Canadians should be mad about:

> companies rather invest tens of billions elsewhere than next door. You can thank carbon capture and carbon tax for that.
> America will develop 17 fields on another continent and will increase oil imports by 1 million+ barrels of oil per day before Canada will even finish building its own pipeline to our own coast.

Canadian failure to build at speed and navigate our own red tape and added costs are no else's fault. The world is moving on.

The difficulties Canada faces cannot be blamed on Donald Trump.

In too many cases they stem from bad decisions by our own government.

That’s the whole file.

You can spend the next year blaming the Americans and making excuses for the last decade of failure.

Or you can finally admit the rot started at home.

Competitiveness.
Productivity.
Capital flight.
Housing.
Energy.
Trade readiness.

None of that was invented in Washington last month.

Harper’s point is simple.
This moment either becomes another round of excuses or the moment Canada stops making them.

One path leads to more managed decline.

The other leads to a country that can actually stand on its own feet.

Tonight, Canada declined to finalize the trade deal under the terms agreed earlier this week.

Despite the U.S. offer to Canada to receive the best treatment of any major exporter to our market, new demands and walk backs of other commitments by Canada have upended the careful balance reached in the past days. In addition, Canada is continuing to maintain its prolonged retaliation against the United States, including, among other things, flat-out prohibitions on certain American goods and services.

For decades, Canada has enjoyed the most favorable access to the U.S. market of any country. And from the beginning of President Trump’s trade program, Canada has continued to enjoy the best treatment in the world, even after – like China – retaliating against the United States. This week, the United States agreed to provide even better treatment to Canada, offering significant tariff reductions on steel, aluminum, autos, and lumber.

The U.S. offer was also forward looking, and included a historic economic and national security partnership to cooperate on export controls, combat transshipment, enhance digital trade, and align certain external tariffs. The offer would have led to supply chain coordination on aerospace, complementary actions to address unfair trade practices, critical minerals cooperation, increased enforcement against imports produced with forced labor, and the announcement of formal U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) negotiations.

This is a missed opportunity for Canada to partner with the United States, which is the fastest growing economy in the G7.

Before you took power in 2015, Canada ranked 5th in the World Happiness Report. The middle class could still reasonably aspire to own a home. Capital stayed and invested here. Young people ranked among the more satisfied cohorts. Taxes, while high, had not yet overtaken spending on the basic necessities of life for the average family.
Under your continuous rule, Canada has fallen to 25th overall in happiness and 71st for youth life satisfaction. Over $1 trillion in net private investment has left the country. Housing became unaffordable for ordinary families. The average household now pays more in taxes than on shelter, food, and clothing combined. Federal spending priorities put retirement benefits on par with education, universities, infrastructure and transport combined, while international affairs roughly matches domestic research and universities. Major investors arrive with tens of billions and find no shovel-ready projects. Headquarters and talent keep leaving.
You did not inherit this decline. You produced it.
The federal government has grown too large relative to its actual responsibilities. Day-to-day life is overwhelmingly provincial, yet you keep the fiscal power, the bureaucracy, and the control while results deteriorate. Canadians are not “gaslit” into believing things are fine — the data on taxes, capital flight, housing, youth despair, and stagnant living standards is public and unambiguous.
Restore the conditions that existed before 2015 or step aside for a government that will. The middle class does not exist to fund an ever-expanding central state that delivers less.

I don’t think Canada is dying. I think Canada has been badly governed, and there is a big difference.

I’ve watched this country change over most of my lifetime. I owned a business when interest rates hit 21%, farmed for decades, built another business, served on municipal council and paid more taxes than I care to calculate. Canada has been through hard periods before.

What worries me today is the accumulation of bad policy.

We tax work, investment and entrepreneurship heavily, then wonder why productivity and investment struggle.

We restrict housing supply while rapidly increasing demand, then act surprised when young people can’t afford a home.

We pour more money into healthcare while people wait months or years for treatment.

We brought immigration to levels our housing, healthcare and infrastructure couldn’t comfortably absorb, hurting Canadians and newcomers alike.

And somewhere along the way, government became far too comfortable spending enormous amounts of other people’s money while treating legitimate criticism as something suspicious.

Where I disagree with cynical Canadians is the idea that nothing can change politically.

It can.

Canada still has enormous advantages: resources, energy, farmland, educated people, functioning institutions and access to the largest economy on Earth. Our problem isn’t a lack of potential. It is what governments have done with it.

Bad policy created much of this mess. Better policy can reverse it.

Lower the barriers to investment. Build homes and infrastructure. Develop our resources. Restore fiscal discipline. Match immigration to our capacity to absorb people successfully. Reform healthcare instead of pretending waiting lists are an unavoidable feature of Canadian life. And defend free expression, including speech we dislike.

I’m angry about where Canada has gone, but I haven’t given up on it.

Quite the opposite.

I want a strong, prosperous Canada where young Canadians once again believe their future will be better than their parents’ past.

• People who have never owned slaves should pay slavery reparations to people who have never been slaves.

• People who have never been to college should pay the debts of college students who took out huge loans for their degrees.

• Immigrants with tuberculosis and polio are welcome, but you’d better be able to prove your dog is vaccinated.

• Irish doctors and German engineers who want to immigrate to Canada must go through a rigorous vetting process, but any illiterate gang-bangers who come from India and surrounding areas are welcome.

• $5 billion for border security is too expensive, but $1.5 trillion for “free” health care is not.

• If you cheat to get into college you go to prison, but if you cheat to get into the country you go to college for free.

• People who say there is no such thing as gender are demanding a female President.

• We see other countries going Socialist and collapsing, but it seems like a great plan to us.

• Some people are held responsible for things that happened before they were born, and other people are not held responsible for what they are doing right now.

• Criminals are caught-and-released to hurt more people, but stopping them is bad because it's a violation of THEIR rights.

• And pointing out all this hypocrisy somehow makes us "racists"?!

Nothing makes sense anymore, no values, no morals, no civility and people are dying of a Chinese virus, but it racist to refer to it as Chinese even though it began in China.

We are clearly living in an upside down world where right is wrong and wrong is right, where moral is immoral and immoral is moral, where good is evil and evil is good, where killing murderers is wrong, but killing innocent babies is right.

The takeaway?

Canada spends roughly 10X more on foreign climate/environmental aid ($1.06 billion/year) than it spends federally on proactive domestic wildfire prevention and forest maintenance.

🚨 Canada had a deal.

Steel. Aluminum. Oil. Uranium. Auto parts.

An actual agreement was in place back in October/November according to Pete Hoekstra.

Then it got blown up.

And the Americans didn’t blow it up.

So who did?

Because from the outside, this doesn’t look like negotiation failure. It looks like deliberate sabotage. Like someone set fire to the business on purpose so the vultures could pick through the assets at fire-sale prices afterward.

Enter Mark Carney — the ex-Brookfield banker with over 100 conflicts of interest who was sold to Canadians as the “deal maker” who would protect us from Trump.

Instead we’ve gotten deal after deal after deal… that somehow never actually materialize. Just vague promises, maybe-someday language, and more borrowing.

In the real world, if a businessman torched deal after deal while racking up massive debt and conflicts, he’d be shown the door.

But in Liberal Canada, he gets put in charge of the country.

This isn’t incompetence.

It’s starting to look like a plan.

Real leaders don’t hide from scrutiny. They don’t shut down committees the second they become inconvenient. They don’t dodge Parliament and then act shocked when people notice.

Mark Carney shuts down Standing Committees, shows up in the House only 23% of the time, refuses to answer tough questions, and still won’t fully disclose his deep business relationships with Brookfield and global finance players who have massive stakes in the policies he’s pushing.

Now we find out a corporate watchdog was still accepting complaints when Carney abruptly shut it down. The timing isn’t suspicious at all, right?

This isn’t leadership. This is someone treating Canada like his personal boardroom. No transparency. No accountability. No tolerance for anyone who dares to question the agenda.

Real leaders face the heat. They answer for their decisions. They don’t weaponize procedure to silence opposition and then lecture everyone else about “democracy.”

Carney was installed, not elected in a general election. He secured a majority through floor-crossers instead of facing voters. And now he’s running the country like it’s his private fiefdom while the bills keep piling up on regular Canadians.

This is exactly why trust in Ottawa is in the toilet.

Canadians deserve better than a global banker playing Prime Minister while dodging every check and balance in the book.
