Here's a look at Liu's design journey.
She's one of our earlier characters — the concept has been with us for a while. The inspiration came from the anime Land of the Lustrous, and that core idea never really changed throughout development.
What did change was the balance of details. Every version is essentially the same character, just with different decisions about where the eye should rest — the gems, the cloak, the hair, the proportions.
It took more passes than I expected to find that balance.

Here's a look at the design process for our newest Slime Valkyrie.Honestly, I liked all of these directions. The axe version especially — there was something really satisfying about a slime girl just casually swinging a giant axe.Choosing one always hurts a little. You pour something into every concept, and only one gets to move forward.But I think she turned out well. It's been a while since I sketched on actual paper.
There's something about working with pen and ink that feels different from drawing on a screen — the lines have a life of their own, and happy accidents tend to stay.
Not sure when she'll make it into the game yet… but looking at these sketches, I kind of want to find out too. 😄

I finally found Shirayen’s early design sheets!
Some of you asked about them before,
and after checking with the artist, I’m really glad I can share them now.
Shirayen was designed as the owner of a hot spring inn,
with a focus on a soft, cute, and lively silhouette.
The artist actually spent quite a bit of time refining her proportions
to get that charm just right—and I think it really paid off.
She ended up becoming one of the most popular characters in the game.
I’d also love to keep creating more CGs and outfits for her in the future… 👀

While sorting through some old development files, we found this early concept sheet for Vespara.
Back then, we explored several ideas for the former Queen of the Bee Kingdom —
including her royal throne and even a loyal knight standing by her side.
Some elements were changed or simplified during development, but you can still see the core concept that shaped her final design.
Looking back at early sketches like this always reminds us how much a character can evolve before reaching the game.
