@Dust_Vikings Load management in the NFL is silly. 17 games decide whether you make the playoffs or not. This is a divisional game that you’ll want for potential tiebreakers later in the year. Plus, players can get hurt on any snap. You can’t control most injuries.

It will not be that hard to extend Smith next year if he finally breaks out at the plate.

Unless the new CBA blows up arbitration, the Astros have Smith for four more seasons. If he makes strides at the plate next year, they can discuss an extension.

@Duck34532 @michaelschwab13 Ask the Red Sox if they like their extensions for Brayan Bello or Kristan Campbell. The Phillies gave Scott Kingery an extension when they called him up, and he had a short cup of coffee and flamed out. If Smith puts it together offensively next year, extension talks can begin.

@c12568ww @michaelschwab13 Doesn’t matter. I’m not extending a guy until he’s proven to be an above average player. Smith isn’t there, yet. I hope he gets there and think he can, but he still has a lot more to prove at the plate before you hand him an extension buying out his arbitration years.

McCarthy was a game manager in college that also had the benefit of knowing defenses. He never should have been drafted that high. His Michigan coaches also ran the ball as much as possible.

@JeremyBranham Gerrit Cole has most certainly lived up to his contract in New York. He was an ace before needing Tommy John Surgery. His worst ERA and WHIP in a Yankees’ uniform is 3.5 and 1.13.

@JeremyBranham Correa’s hasn’t aged well because of injuries. Bregman is in his 1st season with the Cubs so it’s too early to judge, and he had an .820 OPS in Boston last year. Springer posted .OPS’s of .800 or higher in 3 of his 6 years and has been a league average hitter two other years.
