I always love it when the other side announces there are zero arguments for my position, particularly when my position has been mankind’s position in general for all of civilization, and when a majority of my countrymen agree with it.

Cheaper? That’s not a metric I’m particularly interested in, but the fact is that the expense of the death penalty exists solely we tolerate ridiculous death penalty litigation. By the way, I’ve defended a death penalty appeal so I know a bit about what’s going on.

Executing criminals indisputably prevents crime. The criminal is dead and can’t do it again. Don’t tell me we haven’t seen the bloody butcher’s bill of recidivists. In common experience shows that a severe penalty tends to deter at least some criminals. That it does not deter every criminal just not make it useless for this.

It’s regressive and barbaric not to punish criminals appropriately. Death is the appropriate response to a number of crimes. Your Lebowskiesque “Well, that’s just like your opinion, man” dismissal of people who disagree about the appropriateness of the death penalty does not constitute an argument, and I don’t know who it would ever persuade.

Yes, every human endeavor has a potential for error. Not sure how locking somebody up for the rest of their life in error is significantly different. But then, I don’t expect you would want to lock murderers up for the rest of their life.

But hey, zero arguments!
