Shakila Ghasemi Remains Detained without Charge Four Months After Arrest in Kerman
It was learned on 2 June 2026 that Ms. Shakila Ghasemi, a 26-year-old Bahá’í resident of Kerman, remains detained without formal charges more than 120 days after her arrest.
Ms. Ghasemi was transferred to the general ward of Kerman Prison approximately 20 days ago after spending nearly 100 days in solitary confinement. The prolonged isolation is reported to have caused significant physical and psychological distress, and she has suffered several nervous breakdowns during her detention.
She was arrested by security forces at her home in Kerman on 2 February 2026. Prior to her arrest, officers searched the family residence and confiscated electronic devices belonging to her and other family members. Ms. Ghasemi was subsequently held for approximately 47 days in a detention facility operated by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Intelligence Organization before being transferred to solitary confinement in Kerman Prison.
Despite more than four months in custody, no information has been made available regarding the reasons for her arrest or the nature of any charges brought against her. Her case remains unresolved, and no judicial action has been taken to clarify her legal status.

It’s been 57 days since, #Sara_Sepehri, a Bahá’í resident in Shiraz, was arrested and taken to Adelabad Prison. She remains in legal limbo without access to adequate medical care.
She has developed stomach bleeding, while prolonged interrogations have worsened a pre-existing eye condition. Doctors warn her eyesight is at serious risk, with potential for bleeding and permanent damage.
Although some initial treatment was provided, it is insufficient. She requires specialized care, regular monitoring, and ongoing medical access.

@RBC — at the Lethbridge downtown location. There was a young man (vulnerable population) who was in dire need of help. It’s really important for your staff to know who to call to help. You can use Diversion Outreach Team (DOT) 403-892-3707 so this person experiences dignity.

Boshra Mostafavi, a pregnant Bahá’í woman from Rafsanjan, southeast Iran, is among dozens of Bahá’ís detained and jailed in recent months, as the Islamic Republic pursues an escalating campaign of brutal persecution against the religious minority.
Boshra is one of almost 80 Bahá’ís who have faced detention, arrest, and imprisonment since the February outbreak of conflict, in a widening series of human rights attacks by the authorities in Iran. More than 400 recent cases of state-sponsored human rights abuses against Bahá’ís across Iran, including arrests and detentions, violent home raids, unlawful property seizures, and obstructions to justice by judicial authorities, have been reported.

The Center for Human Rights in Iran @ICHRI documents a sharp escalation in the systematic persecution of Iranian Baha'is amid a nationwide crackdown, including dozens of arbitrary arrests, violent home raids, enforced disappearances, torture, and property seizures across cities like Shiraz, Kerman, Mashhad, and Yazd.
The report details cases where detainees were denied access to lawyers, held incommunicado, or subjected to mock executions and electric shocks — with one appellate judge telling three Baha'i women: "You are Baha'i, and in an Islamic country you must pay the price for being Baha'i."
For decades, Iran's constitution has denied Baha'is recognition, barring them from higher education, government employment, and even burial rights. CHRI calls on the UN and governments worldwide to demand an immediate end to these violations and the release of all Baha'is imprisoned solely for their faith.

This reporting adds to growing international concern over the Iranian government's continued scapegoating of the country's largest non-Muslim minority community.
