@PronouncedHare "Decades of television and film presenting them as clowns" - yes. I remember a film set in a mining town in the US where a Dad didn't want his son to go to college but to be a miner like him. Mom was a hero for encouraging son. It portrayed the Dad as a clown and an insecure one.

@MrMidnight1850 @aniobrien I had a job doing market research interviews, calling randomly generated numbers in NZ and Oz. A call to Oz got a gravelly-voiced male who was apoplectic about me getting his number. Me: 'It's random'. Him: 'then take it off your f***ing list', very threateningly. Probably a cop.
