I work with people in different time zones and also computers in UTC. I wish I turned these Google Calendar settings on sooner. https://t.co/uq4Gp1PP1j
The Github breach was due to a single employee using a poisoned VSCode extension. Compromising employees is often the easiest way into systems. If you want to work on cybersecurity at the forefront of the AI infra space, Modal has 3 open security roles! https://t.co/LSQNFSdVBw
1/ We are sharing additional details regarding our investigation into unauthorized access to GitHub's internal repositories.
Yesterday we detected and contained a compromise of an employee device involving a poisoned VS Code extension. We removed the malicious extension version, isolated the endpoint, and began incident response immediately.

Did GitHub start packing their Actions runners more tightly or give us worse hardware? For some reason the flake rate for integration tests in my team's monorepo that had certain assumptions about timing has increased along with other weird flakiness failure modes.
@maxedapps I think the reliability issues are actually evidence to the contrary. So many people and agents now are using it that GitHub's dealing with massive scaling issues.
@theotherelliott I'm looking forward to their post-mortem. They emailed us with a list of affected commits. For very active repos, this is a major headache. 😭

The graphs reflect growth from Jan ’23 to March ’26: 25M → 90M merged PRs/month, 389M → 1.4B commits/month, and 6.9M → 20M net new repos/month.
The intent was to highlight the relative scale between these metrics. Appreciate the feedback and we’ll factor it into future renderings/designs.
