What can we glean from this moment about the tenuous place of Black anger in the public imagination? Will the Black electorate be defined by anger or exhaustion come November? Drawing on The Anger Gap, my OpEd in NYT:

Not saying the CR movement failed. I'm saying it's inaccurate to attribute its success to how participants presented themselves. The movement succeeded despite its poor real-time perception by most everyday people & elites alike. Respectability wasn't the key to its success.
I know that King was assassinated. That doesn’t mean that the Civil Rights Movement failed. They passed laws that restored the right to vote for millions of African Americans who had been denied it for literally centuries. It was an objective success and there is now a great giant granite statue to MLK Jr in the middle of DC where he is venerated as one of the greatest American heroes.
It’s almost as if—and hear me out on this--what they wore didn’t actually matter. Just like every historical & contemporary resistance against state oppression & violence, they’d be discredited and demonized by people desperately clinging to a vile status quo regardless.
Funny how the Civil Rights movement’s presentation of itself didn’t stop King from being assassinated or being targeted by a years-long FBI campaign, or prevent the majority of Americans from viewing the movement as being more hurtful than helpful to its cause.
Thibs deserves a ton of praise. But the claim that he maximized this roster is such a terrible take that I came back to this hell site just to say please, stick to politics.
Columbia President, as school meets Trump demands to violate academic freedom:
"…we are guided by our values, putting academic freedom, free expression, open inquiry, and respect for all at the fore of every decision we make."
"Standing together for Columbia,

@benepstein55 Randle's D is an exercise in frustration because the tools and ability are there but the effort is too often missing. Fascinating to see Minny's long term play w/ him. I'm also hopeful the trade is win-win. Living how Minny's D has been trending up lately.
@benepstein55 His mental hiccups are less egregious & frequent than I feared. The D remains a question mark/frustration, but I give him credit for trying consistently. Wolves have struggled so far, but DiVo will pop eventually & Julius always gets better as a season goes on. Your thoughts?
@benepstein55 After the initial shock of the trade, I was optimistic about KAT raising the team's ceiling. So far, he's exceeded my expectations in a few areas. I underestimated his passing & tenacity on the boards. And he's just overall a better bucker getter than I gave him credit for
