Is he done ranting about the 24K I pay for his housing scam because kuna hii 43k I pay every month for his SHA scam we also need to discuss. Tukimaliza hio ndio tuongee juu ya the 500k in PAYE he takes every single month and splashes on tea and mandazi pale state house all the while insulting us the taxpayers that carry the burden of his greed. In 2027 we are cutting the fat out of our budget to bring relief to all Kenyan workers. The housing levy will go with Ruto.
The Thika Superhighway cost approximately KSh32 billion, yet its economic multiplier effects continue to be felt through reduced transport costs, improved connectivity, expanded trade and increased productivity. That is what productive public borrowing should achieve: the debt finances an asset whose economic returns persist long after the expenditure.
Since taking office, the Ruto administration has accumulated roughly KSh4.25 trillion in additional public debt, with total borrowing over the medium term approaching KSh5 trillion. The fundamental economic question is therefore not simply how much government has borrowed, but what stock of productive public capital has been created in exchange for that debt.
Where is the equivalent capital formation? Where are the investments generating sufficient economic returns to justify this unprecedented expansion of the public debt stock? Where is the additional productive capacity in manufacturing, agriculture, energy, transport, water and human capital?
Debt is economically rational when it finances investments that raise productivity, expand the tax base, generate employment and produce future cash flows or social returns capable of supporting debt repayment.
But borrowing to finance recurrent expenditure, fiscal leakages or low-return projects creates a fundamentally different dynamic: the liabilities remain while the economic asset does not.
Kenyans therefore deserve a transparent public-sector balance sheet: for every trillion borrowed, what assets were created, what economic returns are being generated, and where is the measurable increase in national productive capacity?
That is not politics. It is basic public finance.
