COREN Applauds LAMATA's Transformation of Transportation in Lagos
The Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), Lagos Regional Office, paid a strategic courtesy visit to the headquarters of the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA), reaffirming the critical role of professional engineering standards in delivering sustainable mass transit infrastructure.
The COREN delegation, led by the Head of the Lagos Regional Office, Engr. Tomide Akinnawo commended LAMATA for its sustained efforts to transform public transportation across the Lagos Mega Region. Speaking during the visit, Engr. Akinnawo expressed deep appreciation to the agency and its Managing Director, Engr. Mrs. Abimbola Akinajo, FNSE, a registered member of COREN, for LAMATA's remarkable achievements in upgrading and modernising the state's transportation system.
He noted that LAMATA's commitment to engineering excellence and innovation has positioned Lagos as a model for integrated urban mobility, with infrastructure projects that continue to improve the quality of life for millions of residents.
In her remarks, the Managing Director of LAMATA, Engr. Mrs. Abimbola Akinajo, FNSE, thanked COREN for its unwavering commitment to regulating the engineering profession and nurturing the next generation of engineering professionals.
She emphasised the indispensable role of professionals in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) in driving national development, stressing that it is the collective responsibility of practitioners to uphold the highest professional standards while striving for continuous excellence in their respective fields.
The visit underscored the shared commitment of COREN and LAMATA to promoting engineering excellence and strengthening collaboration to support Lagos State's expanding integrated, multimodal transport system, ensuring that infrastructure development continues to meet global best practices and the needs of a rapidly growing population.
