#Ethiopia: Why over one million IDPs in #Tigray still linger in camps a year after peace deal
https://t.co/conBnOYPlL
With the one-year anniversary of the #Pretoria Peace Agreement approaching, many people are still enduring challenging conditions and food shortages. According to the #UN, over one million individuals remain internally displaced as a result of the #Tigray war, seeking refuge in camps scattered throughout the region.
A collaborative study conducted by the Tigray Health Bureau, Tigray Health Research Institute, and #Mekelle University has revealed that within just nine districts in Tigray, an alarming 1,329 people have died from hunger. Shockingly, starvation now accounts for 68.3% of the deaths in the region. This mostly occurs within the IDP camps, where fundamental necessities such as food, water, and healthcare are lacking. Despite the UN's efforts, around 1.5 million #IDPs have been unable to return to their homes.
One woman named Abrehet Gebre (pseudonym used for safety) courageously shared her traumatic ordeal, recounting the murder of her daughter, experiencing gang rape, and being compelled to flee with her children. She continues to suffer both physically and mentally. While some IDPs are hindered by security concerns, others, like Abrehet, fear the psychological impact of the violence if they were to return.
❗It is INCREDIBLY disheartening to learn that the esteemed @CatholicUniv is to allow #TigrayGenocide perpetrators & executors to continue their genocidal rhetoric using its facilities.
❗Dear @CatholicPres,
Dr. Peter Kilpatrick,
There are plenty of well documented evidence that these individuals, who have been scheduled to use Catholic University, Washington, DC facilities on May 20th, of which they call for extermination, starvation and thorough bombardment of an ENTIRE people in #Tigray (Northern #Ethiopia)
Their values, their rhetoric and their participation in these genocidal acts, of which most likely they will "proudly" speak about using Catholic University facilities on May 20th is not consistent with Catholic University and the Holly Catholic Church values and humanity in general.
We humbly ask you to disassociate yourselves from these individuals, who need to be brought to justice, instead of continuing to propagate their genocidal foray, using Catholic University facilities.
Thank you.

UN Committee Against Torture criticizes #Ethiopia for denying reports of ethnic cleansing in #Tigray & failing to provide established facts regarding the involvement of #Eritrean forces, among others. The report presented by 🇪🇹 delegates unsatisfied UNCAT. https://t.co/w5nLhFGbhk
#Tigray Government and #Ethiopia federal government should help release of samson Teklemichael @reda_getachew@RAbdiAnalyst@martinplaut@UNHumanRights
The whereabouts of an Ethiopian businessman remains a mystery.
Businessman Samson Teklemichael, an ethnic Tigrayan, was abducted in broad daylight in Kenya, Nairobi on November 19, 2021. No one has heard from him since then.
Samson’s family and friends are desperate to know the whereabouts of Samson.
Ethiopian and Kenyan government officials have knowledge, but they are unwilling to cooperate.
There are unconfirmed reports that #Eritrea|n forces blocked humanitarian staff that were destined from Mekelle to Adwa/Axum/Shire #Tigray. This happened in the last two days in Maykinetal area located bn Abi Adi and Adwa. I heard the staff reported back in Mekelle today.
Efforts to restore peace in Ethiopia after two years of fighting between government and rebel forces are being undermined by Eritrea, whose troops continue to attack civilians across its southern border, according to people with knowledge of the situation. https://t.co/FqkKRgn2VX
"The blackout affecting #Tigray “is the world’s longest uninterrupted shutdown,” said Brett Solomon. The response from the responsible Minister is "we have not timeline [to restore]". Blocking internet is only start of the #blockade. Dangerous precedent. https://t.co/ru6tQIiwFR
#Adwa today: no power, no water, no food aid, no communication, no banking, no transportation, etc! Children & women are suffering most. In addition to ENDF, Fano, special forces of d/t regions are recognisable by their uniforms.#Eritrean forces are in & around. Heinous crimes!
