@immigrant_blues If you are being questioned in an airport you cannot leave unless you have been immigration cleared regardless if you are detained or not. The customs act also allows passengers to be compelled (required) to answer questions regarding any goods they are carrying.
@DarthNucleus69@10NewsFirst @10NewsFirstPER I do agree that the execution on the Yes side could have been better though with more information about the actual powers and limitations of the voice body.
@DarthNucleus69@10NewsFirst @10NewsFirstPER The whole referendum was about recognising indigenous peoples as the traditional owners through the establishment of a voice. For the purpose of the referendum they were both intertwined. Australia has rejected this.
idk what I expected from a country that only apologised in 2008 and even that was met with backlash. The gap continues to widen. Australia rejected The Voice. Australia is deeply flawed. #Referendum2023
@10NewsFirst @10NewsFirstPER There are deeper systemic problems under the surface which having a platform to ADVISE government about would have helped to resolve.
@10NewsFirst @10NewsFirstPER “Common sense has prevailed” wouldn’t that mean recognising the traditional inhabitants of this land for hundreds of thousands of years in the constitution, giving us a permanent platform to advise the government? Is No succeeding and keeping things exactly the same common sense?
#Breaking: Australia has voted 'No' in the Voice to Parliament referendum.
Today's landmark vote means a federal advisory board to parliament including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People will not be enshrined in the constitution.
@mjciti@10NewsFirst This whole time they put a focus on being united to achieve better outcomes and that the voice will be divisive. Let’s see if they keep that sentiment.
