এ ঘটনার একটি ভাইরাল পোস্টে দাবি করা হয়েছে, দণ্ডিত ওই বাংলাদেশী তরুণ ও তরুণী ছিলেন স্বামী-স্ত্রী, নবদম্পতি। ঘটনাটি চার মাস আগের। ওমরাহ করতে তারা সৌদি আরব গিয়েছিল বলে দাবি করা হয়। নামাজ শেষে স্ত্রীর কপালে চুমু দেওয়ার ঘটনার কারণে তাদের মৃত্যুদণ্ড দেওয়া হয়েছে বলেও দাবি করা হয়েছে।

তবে, গণমাধ্যমে আসা মৃত্যুদণ্ডের শিকার বাংলাদেশী নজরুল ইসলামের পরিবারের বক্তব্য থেকে ওপরের দাবিগুলো বানোয়াট হিসেবে প্রমাণ হয়। নিহত তরুণ প্রবাসী শ্রমিক হিসেবে সেখানে ছিলেন। প্রবাসীকল্যাণ মন্ত্রী তাদের প্রবাসী কর্মী বলে জানিয়েছেন। ব্রিফিংয়ের সময় প্রবাসীকল্যাণ মন্ত্রীর পাশে দাঁড়ানো ব্যক্তি এসময় পাশ থেকে জানান, একজনের উমরাহ ভিসা ছিল, অন্যজনের মাইগ্রেন্ট (ওয়ার্কার)।

"পারিবারিক সূত্রে জানা যায়, পরিবারের অসচ্ছলতা দূর করে একটু সুখের মুখ দেখতে ২০২২ সালে সৌদি আরবে পাড়ি জমান বিরামপুর গ্রামের দরিদ্র কৃষক আব্দুল বাছিরের বড় ছেলে নজরুল ইসলাম।"

"স্বজনরা জানান, পরিবারের সুখ আর একটু স্বাচ্ছন্দ্যের আশায় ২০২২ সালের ১০ নভেম্বর সৌদি আরবে পাড়ি দিয়েছিলেন নজরুল ইসলাম (২০)। সেখানে যাওয়ার ৬ মাসের মাথায় মক্কা নগরীর একটি মসজিদে এক তরুণীর সঙ্গে অনৈতিক কাজের অভিযোগ এনে দুইজনকে গ্রেফতার করে দেশটির পুলিশ। নজরুলকে গ্রেফতারের খবর জেনেছিল পরিবার, কিন্তু কী কারণে তাকে গ্রেফতার করা হয়েছে তা তারা জানতেন না। পরের তিন বছর তিন মাস জেলে বন্দি থাকার পর, গত বুধবার নজরুল ইসলাম ওই তরুণীর মৃত্যুদণ্ড কার্যকর করে দেশটি সরকার।"

অর্থাৎ, ঘটনাটি চার মাস আগের নয়। নব দম্পতির উমরাহ করতে যাওয়ার ঘটনাও নয় এটি। তারা স্বামী-স্ত্রী ছিলেন এই দাবিটিও সঠিক নয়। ‘নজরুল অবিবাহিত ছিল। মেয়েটি সম্পর্কে আমরা কিছুই জানি না।’ বলে কালবেলাকে জানিয়েছেন নজরুল ইসলামের বাবা আবদুল বাছির।
