Deeply disturbed by @GovKathyHochul’s recent remarks and the underlying perception that she has of Black & brown children from the BX.
Our children are bright, brilliant, extremely capable, and more than deserving of any opportunities that are extended to other kids.
Do better.
@KarinesReyes87@GovKathyHochul While I am also disturbed by @GovKathyHochul remarks, the REAL question is, “WHY?” WHY did she feel like we don’t know what the word computer is? WHY single us out, when the Bronx is 1 of 5 boros in NYC? And WHY has nobody addressed this inequity for over 20 yrs? 🤷🏾♂️
@NYCMayor@DOEChancellor if you are going to run with “children can’t learn if they’re hungry” and then take away the foods they actually want to eat, what do you expect the outcomes to be when they’re hungry?
Interesting how @GovKathyHochul proposed a 4-yr extension of Mayoral Control @NYCSchools before @NYSEDNews finished their hearings & reported back to Legislature. If she believes in it so much, why don’t they have it for Buffalo again? #EndMayoralControl
New "chief" at Tweed: Amid Mayor Adams' budget cuts to schools, Chancellor David Banks' deputy chancellor of leadership, Danika Rux, has named a "chief of school leadership development."
Danielle Giunta, District 26 superintendent, is promoted to the newly created position.
Giunta joins three "chiefs of school support" who each make $222,972 a year.

Department of Education is seeing its budget slashed by more than $500M with cuts to pre-K program & Summer school scaling back its middle school component dramatically. That will impact some 30,000 kids, officials added.

Today, due to Mayor’s latest draconian budget cuts - schools are forced to cut $1B midyear & thousands 3K & pre-k spots are gone.
Libraries end Sunday hours next month. Parks, CUNY, housing - all cut.
Revenue is up, reserves are steady, & Mayor keeps making deeply harmful cuts.
Volunteer? Wait. What? So cut our schools to the point of dysfunction & then ask us to VOLUNTEER to fill the gaps? And tell me, how are poor people with very little resources or time because they are working multiple jobs just to survive in this outrageously expensive city supposed to do that?
@didactickatydid absolutely! plus if they wanna meet in person so badly, they can schedule an appt to come into the building during the school year at any point. virtual conferences are a game changer for my families not working the typical 9-5 and who speak other languages
“They shouldn’t have taken on student loans!”
Do people realize that this sentence effectively means they believe people from working class backgrounds shouldn’t have attended college?
It’s classism.
