Minister, since you say EVs are “good for your pocket”, perhaps you could answer a fairly simple question.

The UK has announced a mileage-based Electric Vehicle Excise Duty from April 2028, as governments face declining fuel-duty revenues.

Can you give Irish EV owners a commitment that Ireland will NOT introduce a per-kilometre or road-user charge on electric vehicles?

Public charging in Ireland is already expensive enough that the economics of an EV can look very different for somebody without cheap home charging.

So before another 30,000 people make a purchasing decision based partly on the promise of cheaper motoring, surely they're entitled to know what the Government's long-term taxation plans for EVs actually are.

Will Ireland rule out an EV mileage tax yes or no?

Because “good for your pocket” today isn't much consolation if the taxman comes looking for the missing petrol and diesel revenue tomorrow. ⚡🚗💰

Another example of Fianna Fáil’s disconnect from the people.

The Minister celebrates the fact that the claimed 3.2 billion bottles and cans have been recycled through the Deposit Return Scheme, stating this proves the public have 'embraced' it.

No, it proves people have no choice but to use it if they want their deposit back.

People have repeatedly raised concerns about the inconvenience, the queues, the machines, rejected containers and the extra burden placed on households. The carbon footprint of all the collection trucks, running & maintaining the machines etc..

Calling this 'public enthusiasm' is completely out of touch.

@fiannafailparty needs to stop congratulating itself for making life more difficult for ordinary people.

Who is paying for this lot to support a man and his buddies who are charged in Germany with Criminal damage or destruction of property, Trespassing, Membership of a criminal organisation, under Section 129 of the German Criminal Code.

Ireland is a strange little country.

Yesterday I covered the court case involving Dr Muhammad Waqas Rabbani. Today another fraud case appeared in the media, and the difference in the reporting is striking.

In the latter case, the Irish defendant's photograph is published. His home address is reported, his original hometown is identified, and the article even goes into his extended family connections, noting he is the uncle of Enoch Burke and referring to alleged family estrangement.

By contrast, in yesterday's reporting on Dr Muhammad Waqas Rabbani, there was no photograph. Instead of a residential address, only Tullow Family Medical Centre was identified, and there was very little background information provided.

This isn't about guilt or innocence. Both men are entitled to a fair trial.

It is about consistency.

If the media believes it is appropriate to publish a defendant's photograph, home address, family connections and extensive personal background in one case, then the same editorial standard should apply to everyone. If those details are not considered appropriate, then they should not be published for anyone.

Equal treatment should mean equal treatment.

Riad Bouchaker was not contributing to society, didn’t speak English and never integrated yet he managed to become a citizen in the country he seemed to hate so much.
There needs to be a complete overhaul of the citizenship process.
You must speak English.
Be resident ten years.
Never claimed welfare during that ten year period for more than 30 days in any one year.
Provide your own accommodation and not social housing.
Must take a short verbal test on basic Irish history and culture.
