The Babinski reflex can also be called plantar reflex is a neurological test to assess the integrity of the corticospinal tract. It is performed by stroking the lateral aspect of the sole of the foot from the heel to the toes with a blunt object.

The big toe extends (dorsiflexes) while the other toes fan out.

Usually possible positive in children less than 2yrs but abnormal in adults which indicates upper motor neuron lesions due to conditions like tumor, stroke.
