i genuinely have never understood why people say historia had been "ditched" by isayama. imo, her arc is one of the best in the entire show. not the kindest, mind you, just best. it's about a lesbian who was forced to marry a man. it's about a woman who wanted to be free but ending up being tied down by duty, never once living a single day of a free life she wanted so much. it's about queen who had been made a queen by an opposition leader and who ended up being forced to stay silent in the face of the very same regiment the end of which she was supposed to represent, because all of her strong supporters either died or moved to another country

it's a terrible, real story. because aot story is terrible and real. it's a lesbian marrying a man. it's someone claiming to be inherently selfish dying for another person. it's erwin dying hours before the basement. it's hange dying hours before the freedom. it's jean taking his mother and good, peaceful childhood for granted and levi starving in a brothel next to the decaying corpse of his prostitute mother. it's kenny leaving levi. it's mikasa's parents murder, and the murder of their murderers. it's sasha going to another country to kill people getting killed herself. it's humans, and they're terrible, because the world is cruel.

but it's also beautiful. because historia loved her child, because ymir loved historia, because levi loved erwin and erwin knew it, because erwin loved humanity and died for it, because hange loved titans but loved their comrades more, because jean grew out of his behaviour and became one of the wisest characters of the show, because levi ended up being free in the end, alive, because kenny gave the serum to levi, because mikasa was the one to free everyone, as despite her immense love she was the freeset person in the world, because sasha's parents forgave gabi.
