📢Informal Regional Meeting on the Global Framework
Day 1 kicked off in Kathmandu!🎊 Organized by UNODA & UNRCPD with MoFA in Nepal, participants focused on:
🔹 Safer ammunition management
🔹 Tackling risks: diversion, trafficking, explosions
🔹 Boosting regional collaboration
From birthplace of peace, we call for urgent action to combat illicit arms & ammo management. Every trafficked bullet & mismanaged stockpile is a threat & we must shift from state-centered security to human security rooted in humanitarian principles, gender equality & sust dev.
An informal regional meeting for Asia-Pacific countries on the Global Framework for Ammunition has started in Kathmandu today. Excellent opening presentations from @NoraAllgaier and Nils Anders. A gun is useless without bullets - so the GFA is at the heart of human security.
PR of 🇰🇬 @kasymalieva_a made an intervention during the event organized by @NepalUNNY & @UNRCPD on Disarmament in AsiaPacific. Participants were informed on the efforts of 🇰🇬 in the field of disarmament, including SALW control. We thank #UNODA&all partners for their cooperation.
Today, the First Committee adopted all resolutions related to Cluster 6, “Regional Disarmament and Security.”
Delighted to see the strong support from Member States for @UNIDIR, @UNREC_, @UNRCPD, and @UNLIREC.
Having worked firsthand with each of these UN entities, I know their vital role in advancing disarmament, building trust, and fostering security through capacity building, research, and tailored regional initiatives.
