@PostWither Ok but if I release a song where I’m singing and playing an instrument and that gets sampled that is still my singing and instrumentation in that song, it’s not some completely new thing. I don’t think it’s unreasonable to ask for credit and a reasonable amount of royalties.
@PostWither Are you fucking with me? I’m trying my best to understand where you are coming from here but idk how you can so confidently conflate something as abstract as the concept of inspiration with directly sampling a record in which real people performed the music that is in the song.
@PostWither But sampling is completely different to inspiration, like they couldn’t be any more different. The world is yours is my favourite song and a huge part of that is Ahmad Jamal’s piano that drives the whole beat. That isn’t inspiration that’s him playing the instruments that are -
@PostWither What is revisionist about that? The vast majority of the most important hip hop records would not exist if not for the samples that were used in them. To act like the artists that were sampled don’t deserve any credit is crazy ignorant
