Santa Clara is the #2 county in the country for data centers and income.
At a recent town meeting, the city revealed that data centers cover 9% of the city general fund and they keep the area's electricity costs 33-57% lower than those in surrounding utilities.
Lucky!
Voting yes on initiative 645 to repeal the state income tax is critical for the future of Washington. Encouraging to see the polling, but spread the word and get out the vote!
Olympia passed a 9.9% unconstitutional income tax and buried in it are 13 sections that quietly strip the tax exemption off public pensions.
Why? Look at the number sitting right here:
$166.1 BILLION in WA public pension retirement money, previously untaxed:
PERS 1: $9.6B — state & local govt employees (legacy, pre-1977)
PERS 2/3: $72.8B — state & local govt employees
TRS 1: $7.0B — public school teachers (legacy, pre-1977)
TRS 2/3: $30.1B — public school teachers
SERS 2/3: $11.3B — school support staff (bus drivers, custodians, aides)
PSERS 2: $2.0B — public safety (corrections, 911 dispatch)
LEOFF 1: $7.2B — police & firefighters (legacy, pre-1977)
LEOFF 2: $24.0B — police & firefighters
WSPRS 1/2: $2.0B — state troopers
JRS: $9.4M — judges
JRF: $1.7M — judges (legacy fund)
TOTAL: $166.1B
That's the target. Sec. 812 of the bill amends RCW 41.26.053 (LEOFF — cops and firefighters) to say the old tax exemption "does not exempt any pension or other benefit... from tax under Title 82A RCW." Same language hits PERS, TRS, SERS, WSPRS, and judges too. 13 statutes, systematically rewritten.
$166 billion in retirement money just became a target. Screenshots below — read it yourself.
U.S. data centers require:
30x less water than U.S. golf courses.
100x less than California almonds.
200x less than U.S. home lawns.
2,500x less than U.S. crop irrigation.
Who is protesting almonds? Golf courses? Lawns? Nobody.
China does not feel threatened by your lawn.
America isn't efficient, or tidy, or regimented. It's messy. Complicated. Unpredictable. And that's precisely the point. A nation that centers the individual over the state always will be. I wouldn't have it any other way.
