geeking out again, but i just want to let this out haha! one thing i noticed in #TayoSaWakas is how cisco’s relationship to space is communicated. when he moves into cheska’s condo, the first things he handles w the most care are his awards, trophies, and certificates - objects tied to achievement, recognition, and validation. they’re placed prominently, meant to be seen.

meanwhile, their room itself barely changes. it remains v much cheska’s space - her paris decor, her hair clips, her earrings, all these intimate traces of her femininity and daily life are still everywhere. the space never fully becomes “theirs”; it stays as cheska’s world w cisco simply inserted into it.

and i don’t think that choice is insignificant. cisco values validation deeply, and the film makes us understand why. w the pressure he carries from his abu and the way achievement is tied so closely to his sense of worth, winning becomes more than ambition, for him it becomes his identity. so even in a shared space, his center of gravity remains the same: achievement, recognition, the need to prove himself.

what’s even more interesting is how the film quietly suggests that this attachment doesn’t simply disappear w time. those markers of achievement continue to feel almost frozen in place, as if reflecting a part of cisco that struggles to move beyond the version of himself built around winning.

cheska made room for him, but emotionally, cisco never fully moved out of himself.
