@robinhanson I find older people are more transparent (possibly due to decreasing amounts of giving a F). I’d suspect a 50 year old would be more willing to chase passions than a 20 year old if not for lock in effects.
@DouglasKMurray@TheFP This movie isn’t as bad as the critics say. It’s also a fairly unremarkable low budget film. I’d put it in that Death Wish class of film that might garner some cultural memory due to its “of the moment” cultural commentary.
@ku_fallen@paulg Historically a crime required both a bad act (actus reus) and a bad intent (mens rea). The point is we are stripping away actus reus and punishing mens rea (increasingly broadly defined).
@charlesmurray I think that’s a fair statement. It is difficult for people with an ability to understand those without that ability. Intelligence is a gradient so that makes it less stark than sight/blind but at some gap it’s effectively the same.
The system does a lot of good but is also rife with overreach and abuse. An anonymous complaint can subject parents to months of court proceedings and tens of thousands in attorneys fees. It also often targets the poor simply for not providing an acceptable upper middle class environment.
@TracesofTexas Fantastic story. We drove down from Paris to Jewett every 4th of July weekend growing up. Great memories. And I can attest that Leon County produces some hard, tough, resilient people.
@pmarca This is a phenomena that attorneys and politicians understand well. You have to speak to people at their level to persuade. No reason AIs couldn’t learn this.
