Adult and juvenile Great Crested Grebe at RSPB Ham Wall. Lovely to sit on a bench and watch the pair drifting about. (21.09.26) #ukwildlife#birds#somersetbirding
Nice taking a sunny early morning walk recently alongside the Severn Estuary, between New Passage and Severn Beach, and enjoy seeing the shorebirds. Just after high tide, they were roosting fairly close in. Ringed Plover and Dunlin pictured. (09.09.26) #severnside@bristolbirding
Well that was a nice surprise yesterday - took a wander on the beach at Dunster, Somerset, and came across a small flock of Greenfinch, plus some Linnet. (12.09.26) #somersetbirding#ukwildlife#birds
What a beautiful morning a few days ago for a walk alongside the Severn Estuary, between New Passage and Severn Beach. Lots of shorebirds about, and it was fabulous to watch two Kestrel on the saltmarsh. (09.09.26) #ukwildlife#birds@bristolbirding
This Wheatear was a delight at WWT Steart Marshes a week ago (03.09.26). Great just watching it searching for snacks along the line of a fence. #somersetbirding#ukwildlife#birds
Migrant Hawker Dragonfly. At least a dozen in flight yesterday morning... Went back this morning and found one that had settled! Daisy Field, Lamplighters Marsh NR, Bristol. (21.08.26) #ukdragonflies#ukwildlife#odonata
Good to see a flew butterfly about at Lamplighter's Marsh, Bristol, yesterday. Painted Lady / Green-veined White / Common Blue / Speckled Wood. (20.08.26) #ukbutterflies#ukwildlife
Enjoyed a visit to Woorgreens, Forest of Dean, yesterday (06.08.26). Nice to find a good variety of dragonfly and damselfly, despite it being a cool day with quite a lot of cloud. Highlight for me was coming across this Red-veined Darter. #ukdragonflies#ukwildlife#odonata
The Wasp Spider (Argiope bruennichi). Several were found in their orb-webs amongst long grass at Portbury Wharf Nature Reserve (15.07.26). Their black and yellow wasp-like markings will be a good deterrent to predators! #spider#Invertebrate#ukwildlife@BritishSpiders
A first sighting for me! Southern Migrant Hawker dragonfly. There were several at Portbury Wharf Nature Reserve yesterday (15.07.26). A very pretty dragonfly with bright blue eyes. #odonata#ukdragonflies#ukwildlife
A delight to see a White-letter Hairstreak butterfly last week at Snuff Mills (Bristol, 10.07.26). Often spending time around the tops of trees, they're not easy to see, but they do descend to take nectar from nearby flowers. #ukbutterlfies#ukwildlife
The Small Copper is, well, a small butterfly! They can be seen perched on flower heads. Being territorial, they do chase off other insects that come nearby - often just as a nicely composed picture is lined up!! (Lamplighters Marsh, Bristol. 12.07.26) #ukbutterflies#ukwildlife
A delight to find good numbers of Clouded Yellow butterfly at Lamplighters Marsh, Bristol, this morning. These bright yellow butterfly are a migratory European species and a regular visitor. (12.07.26) #ukbutterflies#ukwildlife#nature
