Educators and volunteers participating in an educational workshop at the Durban Holocaust & Genocide Centre: Slovak Jews in the Holocaust – A Small Community, Huge Story… and Two Women, hosted by historian Prof. Hanna Yablonka.
The Durban Holocaust & Genocide Centre hosts its annual commemoration of the 1938 November Pogrom (Kristallnacht), featuring a keynote address by Professor Hanna Yablonka titled Kristallnacht 1938: The Final Accord in a Fateful Year.
2/2 Around 91 Jews were killed, and approximately 30,000 Jewish men were arrested. This violence is seen as a precursor to the Holocaust. Kristallnacht warns us of the dangers of rising antisemitism and the need to counter hatred with unity and remembrance. #holocausthistory
Kristallnacht was a state-sanctioned pogrom by Nazi Germany, during which Jewish synagogues, businesses, and homes were attacked across Germany and Austria from November 9 to 10, 1938. 1/2
Today, we hosted honors psychology students from Varsity College, who explored themes such as social identity, trauma and resilience, moral decision-making, and the impact of prejudice.
Learners and educators from Ntsimbini High School in Kokstad join us, carrying posters from the survivors' activity. They help us emphasize the importance of valuing human rights and diversity, ensuring these lessons are spread far and wide.
Last week , we hosted learners from Hilton College who extracted valuable lessons from our tours .

Our centre hosted 92 students from Dumisani Makhaye High School . It was the school’s first visit at the centre and the learners engaged with the information with a profound curiosity. “I draw inspiration from Anne Frank’s story; it is a story of hope” - A learner reflects .
Grade 9 students from Curro Heritage House displayed immense enthusiasm as they engaged with our latest temporary exhibition, Chayela Rosenthal Wunderkind of the Vilna ghetto theatre🎭.

Last week we partnered with @LHR_SA , @Probono_Org and @HIASrefugees for our second legal help desk. This was an opportunity for refugees and asylum seekers to learn more about their rights and meet one-on-one with a lawyer for assistance.
