Many know Jesse Owens as the elite Olympic athlete that humiliated Hitler by dominating the 1936 Berlin Olympics, but did you know that after the Olympics, Owens had a hard time finding work?
One way he earned money was by racing a horse at events. From stadium races to half time shows, Jesse Owens raced to earn money. Almost as soon as he came back from the Olympics, he began racing to earn money. Owen's said it was degrading, but he couldn't eat four gold medals. Once a symbol of freedom and American might, he was soon a sideshow at other events.
About a year ago, we went to Mexico for my wife’s 33rd birthday.
We argued most of the day about stupid shit. 12 years of marriage stuff. 3 kids and 2 busy careers stuff.
It all changed 2 weeks later.

Life turned upside down.
A year of hospitals, chemotherapy and a new decade of treatments. It’s easy to look back and wonder what we were so upset about on the beach in Mexico everyone seemingly healthy.
It’s easy to get addicted to problems—“needing” more work, more money, more prep for a storm to come.
When the storm came, we had to wing it anyway.
Enjoy the smooth seas—you’ll be better prepped to handle the choppy water than burnout through constant vigilance.
