@Mmck09@adam_deadman@bet365@MCYeeehaaa@SenseiChanning What was your answer? Was it that you’d researched the average corners won & corners conceded by the opposition, seen that a wonderkid was starting on the right wing? 😅
@joselyinechap Any time a ball comes over aerially, I’d be telling the other team to get their elbows out and “accidentally” catch the kid in the face. 15 times. 😂
@AdhyNug98137188@MainakMukh47974@The_Forty_Four Exactly this - you can’t just throw 11 people on to a pitch after a couple of weeks together & think it’ll be anything other than a chaotic mess 😂
The closest thing would probably be international teams under Bielsa, though he wasn’t massively successful, time was prob a factor
@MainakMukh47974@The_Forty_Four He hasn’t pressed for a long time 😂 but he was never considered a good presser, he just had more energy/stamina when he was younger, lol
I don’t know how old you are, so I don’t know how much of CR7 you’ve watched, but this was part of the issue with his 2nd Utd spell under Ole
@MainakMukh47974@The_Forty_Four But the key difference is that Arteta is able to construct a team/squad & select players to fit a profile & spend many continuous weeks & months training the players to do this. A national team manager doesn’t have these same luxuries - you have to play the hand you’re dealt.
@MainakMukh47974@The_Forty_Four It’s *A* tactic in football - there are many ways to skin a cat.
Playing a high press/gegenpressing was very popular, but now teams have worked a way around that, so the trend is shifting slightly.
CR7 & Messi cannot press, that means they shouldn’t play football by your logic?
@MainakMukh47974@The_Forty_Four Also, Arsenal don’t really press that high anymore, especially since the start of the year. They did previously, but Arteta changed his approach. The number of high turnovers Arsenal won dropped significantly this season.
Only a handful of teams play a high press well.
@MainakMukh47974@The_Forty_Four It makes sense if 1) your team is not full of physical beasts that can keep going at high intensity for 90 mins in high temps; 2) you don’t have time to develop your pressing game to a sufficient level & 3) the opposition are technically much better than you.
@MainakMukh47974@The_Forty_Four It’s much easier to organise two compact defensive lines to compress the space than it is to teach a team how to press high up the pitch, ID what triggers will activate the press & who presses who in which part of the pitch. The profile of players you have in a team also counts.
@MainakMukh47974@The_Forty_Four It’s not about teaching them to press, it’s 1) how much time you can get to spend with the same group of players to drill how you want to press & 2) in a tournament like this WC in hot conditions, a high press is not a smart approach. The players will be exhausted after 60 mins.
