The Essence of Women | Women’s Month at the DBSA

What does it mean to be a woman - beyond the titles we carry, the roles we play and the expectations placed upon us?

This Women’s Month at the DBSA, we created space to explore exactly that.

Our journey began on 13 August with our first Women’s Pod, featuring the insightful Nicolette Mashile, Kanya Middleton and Liezelle Kumalo who brought honest perspectives and powerful voices to the conversation. It was a reminder that there is no single definition of womanhood - our stories, journeys and experiences are as diverse as we are.

We brought the month to a fitting crescendo on Friday, 21 August with our Essence of Women celebration, featuring the phenomenal Nandi Madida as our keynote speaker.

From the conversations that challenge us to the stories that move us, this Women’s Month was about more than an event. It was about recognising the woman behind the role. The courage behind the journey. The ambition behind the dream. And the influence behind every ripple of change.

Because the essence of a woman cannot be captured in a single word.

It is who she is, what she carries, what she creates - and the lives she touches along the way.

Here’s to the women of the DBSA, and to every woman whose presence makes the world a little more possible.
