I witness how zhang linghe worked hard to be xie zheng in zhuyu. he filmed some action scenes over and over again to get the best shots without complaining, even when being hurt by hanging wire. not delaying the progress and keep doing it. there was also saying that he was rushed into hospital because of the fake snow during filming the snowy forest fighting scene.
ever since the premiere, this drama and zhang linghe gained so many love as well as hate that beyond my imagination. there is no single day being spend without "black hot search" on weibo and I notice there are some who also hate it too here when all data is loudly speaking how zhuyu is truly a hit as well as zhang linghe proving himself for once again.
now, as this drama about to finish, the last thing that I can hope is just for it to finish peacefully.
#PursuitOfJade 逐玉
Out of curiosity, I was trying to research a little on the meaning of the title.
Apparently the ML's real name is 嚴政 (Yán Zhèng) – a "jade-like" nobleman from a fallen family.
(That is using traditional Chinese; simplified is 严政. Can any novel readers confirm?)
So, why is he "jade-like"? During the Han Dynasty, there was a famous jade talisman called the 嚴卯 (Yán Mǎo) . Nobles wore it to embody righteousness and ward off evil spirits. It was inscribed with a 32-character charm, which includes the famous line:
"既正既直,既觚既方" – "It is both upright and honest, it is both solid and square."
His name 嚴政 (Yán Zhèng) , meaning "Strict Uprightness," perfectly mirrors the "既正既直" (upright and honest) portion of that ancient jade inscription. His very name is a jade artifact.
While in hiding, he uses the alias 言正 (Yán Zhèng) (as seen on IQIYI), meaning "upright words" or "words of truth."
How does this connect to "Jade" (玉)?
His alias 言 (speech) becomes his weapon to pursue justice and reclaim his identity.
The female lead's name is 樊長玉 (Fán Chángyù)' : she literally is the "Jade" (玉) in the title, Chasing Jade
His words allow him to win her heart (starting from the time he proposed to be her husband) , build their life, and fight to reunite with her.
Has a beautiful double meaning:
Using 言 (words of truth), he pursues 玉 (jade)- both his lost honor and his wife, Changyu.
He is chasing Jade. And she is the "jade" waiting to be found.
p/s My written Mandarin is crap - so please feel free to correct me.
