Congratulations to my friend and former Chief of Staff, Adam Telle, on being named by @POTUS as acting Secretary of the Army.

This is a critical position for our nation’s defense, and I can’t imagine a better leader for the world’s greatest warriors. He knows how to inspire, lead and equip the Army for success. Given the challenges we face today, Adam is the “man for the moment.”

Beyond his competence for the position, Adam is a trusted and respected figure in Washington. He’s been a leader in the legislative branch as my Chief of Staff and an extraordinary leader in Trump 47 as he has transformed the Army Corps of Engineers. Adam will be a catalyst for positive change as acting Secretary of the Army supporting a major transformation of our military competence under the leadership of @SecWar.

This is wonderful news for our armed forces and for the nation.

At the far western tip of the Aleutian Islands, Attu, Alaska is the closest point in the 50 states to Beijing and Pyongyang. It is the farthest point from Washington, DC. It sits in a different hemisphere. It is among the most strategic ground anywhere in the world. This is farthest reach of America's Arctic.

The last time we lost Attu, it cost us 549 American lives and thousands wounded and maimed for life to take it back. 15,000 soldiers, sailors and airmen did the job. Of the almost 3,000 enemy captors that held Attu for 11 months, 28 walked off alive. The remains of others still lie among its fields and caves. It was the first and last time in over 200 years Americans lost their own soil and required the bloodiest battle since the Civil War to reclaim it.

Today, Attu sits uninhabited and effectively abandoned. An island the size of New York City still covered in the detritus of war, now secured from those from whom it was taken by dangerous, unexploded ordinance. The local Aleut population that thrived there for thousands of years are gone, removed, killed off in war, and never permitted to return. Even the US Coast Guard packed up and left 15 years ago. This all needs to change. We must clean American ground. We must help the American people. Science and research will lead the way.

Alaska front-and-center in U.S. critical mineral push: 500 tons of equipment head to Port MacKenzie antimony refinery

Almost 500 tons of crushing, ore sorting, milling, flotation, and refining equipment departed Seattle on August 26, 2026, aboard a barge bound for Nova Minerals’ processing site at Port MacKenzie, Alaska. The barge is expected to arrive Monday, September 7.

The development of the Nova Minerals Port MacKenzie antimony refinery is fully funded by a $43.4 million award from the U.S. Department of War. The refinery will support the establishment of a domestic antimony supply chain— currently dominated by China— with first production targeted for 2027. Antimony is a critical mineral used in military technology, flame retardants, vehicle and industrial batteries, and semiconductors

Last week, I joined @SecretaryWright and the Alaska Energy Authority to discuss how we can deliver more affordable, reliable energy for Alaskans. For 50 years, AEA has worked to do just that with Railbelt transmission and hydropower to rural powerhouses, bulk-fuel facilities, and renewable energy projects.

My team and I have supported AEA’s work by securing more than $206 million in federal funding to strengthen Railbelt transmission and move lower-cost power across the system for the benefit of Alaskans.

And, we’re taking action to bring energy costs down now. We secured an EPA emergency fuel waiver that unlocks up to 75,000 additional gallons of locally refined diesel per day on the North Slope and worked with the administration to nearly double Alaska’s allocation of federal low-income heating assistance, providing real relief for households across Alaska.
