With major lakes starting to freeze over, make sure to take the necessary safety precautions if venturing out on the ice! Our partners at the @iowadnr provide some great safety tips regarding being on ice: https://t.co/usmYehWvzb
Correction: Nashville's official snowfall accumulation was 7.6" (not 7.8"). Of that total, 6.3" occurred yesterday, breaking the daily snowfall record for January 15. Normal annual snowfall is 4.7", so we received more than an entire winter's worth of snow in just one event.
For the safety of visitors & staff, the Washington Monument, Old Post Office Tower, and Ford's Theatre National Historic Site are all closed today - Tuesday, January 16, 2024. We hope everyone stays safe and warm.

Air Force Two was diverted to Dulles this evening, when it was supposed to be returning to Joint Base Andrews from Atlanta, per the VP's office.
A source familiar says there was wind shear. (Which if you look outside in the DC area would not be a surprise)
Hello all, this is important:
Welcome to Autumn. This kicks off the Cozy SZN, which winds our way toward the hardship season of Winter. As we transition this equinox, know that this is the season of cozy. Of candles, warm drinks, family, and friends. The cold nights are a reminder to get out and enjoy the outdoors while you still can.
The first 2/3 of Cozy SZN are also Spooky SZN. It is a time to get in tune with those that came before us, who are no longer here, and remember their wisdom, and to provide memories to the young ones that will outlast you.
Take care, and happy Fall, friends.
Today is the first day of fall! Get ready for fuzzy sweaters and enchanting strolls along leaf-covered paths on the National Mall. #WashingtonDC

@KendraWrites I came from a family where we referred to meds by their chemical names and rarely bought "mixed" drugs. I was always acutely aware of what everything is and what it does. My husband came from a "eh, take two NyQuil about it" family. Mind blowing for both of us.
I don't get why some feel the need to "call" where they think #Lee is going so early? I've already seen "fish storm" and "not going to hit the US East Coast & Canada." Have storms like Charley, Rita, Irma, Florence and Ian over the years not taught some of us the occasional fickle nature of computer models? It just formed yesterday, is still over 2,000 miles from the United States and will spend the next week straight over open water. Give it time. Don't rush to premature conclusions. Of course I would love for this to curve out to sea and not impact anyone, but it's way too early to make that call. Personally, if given the choice, I would rather wait a little longer to be correct...instead of rushing to be first and potentially wrong. Just my two cents. ✌️
