Larry Bird went for 34pts and 17 rebounds, leading the team through what became known as the Heat Game. The old Boston Garden had no air‑conditioning, the building was a sauna, and temps outside hit 97°.
42 years ago tonight, June 8, 1984, West Boylston native Donnie Beardsley (RIP 2015) seated at The Fours Boston(RIP 2020) before Game 5(“Heat Game”) of the 1984 Finals and delivered his now‑legendary prediction to the NBA Entertainment crew.
Later that night, a friend who worked at the Garden snuck Donnie and his buddy Dale inside. They camped out in the men’s room until the doors opened and the crowd started pouring in.
