📊 Census 2027 Phase-I Progress Reviewed in Barnala | Handiaya Creates Milestone!
The Census 2027 Phase-I (Houselisting & Housing Census) in Barnala district received a significant boost as Dr. Navjot Khosa IAS, Director Census Operations, Punjab, conducted a comprehensive review of the ongoing Census activities alongside Shri Harpreet Singh IAS, Deputy Commissioner Barnala, and other senior officers.
👏 Dr. Navjot Khosa appreciated the dedicated efforts of the district 972 Enumerators and 163 Supervisors, who are working tirelessly to ensure accurate and timely data collection under this important national exercise.
🏆 Handiaya becomes the first charge in Punjab state to successfully complete Census 2027 Phase-I work! The achievement was possible through the coordinated efforts of a committed team of 5 Supervisors and 26 Enumerators under the leadership of Shri Harpreet Singh, Charge Officer. The team was specially felicitated for its outstanding contribution by the Director.
🗣️ Emphasizing the importance of the Census as the foundation for evidence-based planning and development, Dr. Navjot Khosa directed all Census functionaries to maintain the highest standards of accuracy, completeness, and data quality while adhering to prescribed guidelines and timelines.
📍 During her visit, she also conducted field inspections in the area of Baba Deep Singh Nagar in Municipal Corporation Barnala and Village Rureke Kalan, interacting directly with Enumerators and Supervisors. She reviewed house numbering, layout maps, area coverage, field records, and the effective use of the HLO App and expressing satisfaction over the professionalism and preparedness of the field staff.
🌡️ Keeping in view the ongoing heatwave conditions, Dr. Navjot Khosa advised all field personnel to prioritize their health by staying hydrated, avoiding prolonged exposure to direct sunlight, using protective gear, and remaining alert to symptoms of heat-related illnesses.
✅ Expressing satisfaction with the progress achieved so far, she urged all officers and field staff to maintain the same momentum and ensure the completion of remaining Phase-I activities within the stipulated timeline.

As of April 20, a total of 2,19,795 MT of wheat has arrived in the mandis of the district, out of which 1,77,156 MT has been procured. An amount of Rs 316 crore has been credited to farmers’ accounts so far.

As part of district initiatives,Had the opportunity to visit GPS Handiaya and GPS Gursewak Nagar. The DC Office donated 12 RO plants and 3 computers.
With this, 100% of schools in Barnala now have RO water facilities, and no school lacks computer access.

Barnala district is expected to receive 4.75 million tonnes of wheat during the current procurement season.

Barnala, one of the agrarian districts of Punjab, is home to some of the largest combine harvester manufacturers in the country.
Last week, a visit was made to a Farmer Training Camp in Barnala. The visit provided valuable insights into farmer-corporate interactions at the grassroots level. Interactions were also held with local Self-Help Groups (SHGs) and organic growers, and their valuable suggestions were heard.
Fine of ₹2.25 lakh has been imposed in 7 cases involving substandard food products. The Health Deptt has been directed to intensify regular inspections and sampling to ensure safe food. Zero tolerance towards adulteration. Consumer safety is our priority.
