Happy Teacher's Appreciation Week! Last Sunday, the DCDAR State Regent's Project and Community Classroom committees hosted a joint event to prepare treats for teachers at Savoy Elementary, a TItle I School in SE DC. How is your chapter celebrating Teacher's Appreciation Week?
Thank you to the 150+ D.C. Daughters participating in the NSDAR Junior Membership's "Remember the Ladies" 5k! Due to your support, D.C. came in 5th ationwide for the number of registrants - a massive accomplishment for our state society. D
3 DCDAR Chapters supported an Honor Flight April 16 at DCA. Descendants of '76/Manor House welcomed 200 veterans from Indiana & Ohio to visit their Memorials in D.C. They thanked veterans for their service & gave grommet bracelets provided by Dolley Madison Chapter.
The State Regent's Project & Community Classrooms share a lesson plan created by DCDAR members on Flora Wambaugh Patterson (to be sent to NSDAR). Chapters are encouraged to share this in their meetings & with partner schools. See the March chalkboard to download your copy!
Congrats to Descendants of '76 Chapter Membership Chair Sheri Edwards O'Connell for her recognition by the NSDAR's Eastern Division Membership Committee for organizing a chapter genealogy workshop at NSDAR headquarters! Thank you, Sheri!
DCDAR Daughters celebrated World Read Aloud Day on Feb 7 by supporting Everybody Wins DC. The State Regent's Project learned about EWDC's 30 years of work promoting reading in the DC area and wrote notes of encouragement for books that will go into the community.
DCDAR’s Yvonne Lister and Kara Westercamp were honored to accept the Volunteer Group of the Year for 2022 to DCDAR during the National Park Service Volunteer Awards Ceremony. Congratulations to all DCDAR Daughters who volunteer their support to the NPS!
State Regent’s Project organized a tour of Planet Word museum for DCDAR members. Thanks to all who attended and helped promote the Hicks Administration focus on literacy. Be sure to attend State Conference’s Saturday night dinner to hear from Planet Word founder Ann Friedman.
Happy 126th Anniversary on Jan. 6 to Manor House Chapter, founded by Francis Marion “Minnie” Fazio Ballinger in 1898. The chapter is honoring its anniversary this week by sharing information @ManorHouseDARon grave restoration and Mrs. Ballinger's patriot ancestor, Benjamin Burch
Thanks for contributing to the 10th annual DCDAR holiday donations to the Marines over the Christmas holiday! DCDAR Chapters donated cookies & gift cards to add sparkle to their holidays. This was a Capitol Chapter project & now is a state Project Patriot event.
DAR Library celebrated the 250th anniversary of the Boston Tea Party at DAR Headquarters with a (you guessed it!) tea party! The event featured food, tea, reenactors, and a presentation on the Boston Tea Party facts and fiction. Check out the photos below!
