The Government is looking to roll out the Nurturing Early Scientific Thinking (NEST) programme in all early childhood institutions (ECIs) across the country by year's end. https://t.co/oJXhMn7o06
On Friday, I had the opportunity to return to a place that played an important role in shaping my journey in public service, the Voluntary Organization for the Upliftment of Children (VOUCH).
When I left university, I had a choice between a career in banking and serving here. I chose public service, and the lessons I learned at VOUCH have stayed with me ever since.
Working with families, supporting children, helping people through difficult times, and seeing lives transformed taught me the value of service and community. Much of the work was voluntary, but the experience left a lasting impact on me.
For decades, VOUCH has supported Jamaicans through its educational, counselling, and social welfare programmes. During my visit, I was reminded of the many lives that have been touched by this institution and the important role it continues to play in our society.
I am grateful for the years I spent here and for the opportunity to have contributed to an organization dedicated to helping others.
I am pleased to invite our young minds to the West Central St. Andrew Chess Fun Day on June 6, 2026.
Chess teaches discipline, patience, critical thinking, and strategic decision-making, skills that can help shape future leaders and problem-solvers. This event is an opportunity for our children to learn, compete, make new friends, and have fun in a positive and engaging environment.
I encourage parents and guardians to register their children and be part of a day filled with learning, excitement, prizes, and surprises.
I look forward to seeing our young chess champions in action. ♟️🇯🇲
First Shipment of Mangos for the season are off to the USA. Great News especially on the heels of Hurricane Melissa. Best Mangoes in the world! #GrowingForward#FloridaBound
Claims that funds under the Solidarity Programme were “pocketed” are false and misleading. Programme funds were either disbursed to support vulnerable Jamaicans, reallocated to meet critical needs, or returned in keeping with government financial regulations.
Mental health requires more than institutionalisation. It requires compassion, community support, early intervention, and access to care that protects the dignity of every Jamaican.
Dr. Tufton, made the point while delivering his presentation during the Sectoral Debate.
Today we broke ground for the new Stepney Rainwater Catchment Tank, a major investment that will bring much-needed water security to more than 1,100 residents in Stepney and surrounding communities.
Your property taxes and Motor Vehicle license fees are transferred to Parish Councils for this purpose. Instead, the mayor is always lamenting a lack of funding.
The public deserves an explanation.
Thank you to the World Bank team for your efforts in getting a US$200 million Catastrophe Bond placed in the global financial markets for Jamaica!! This is a major part of our natural disaster risk financing. This Cat Bond placement marks a significance development for Jamaica!🇯🇲

The Government of Jamaica has been spending $67 billion from the budget on Hurricane Melissa relief and recovery efforts. This investment is supporting families, restoring critical infrastructure, and rebuilding key sectors which drive our economy.
During the staging of the 2026 St Andrew North West Chess Invitational, I asked students how we could improve on the event for next year.
I had a quick discussion with Mr Curry of Calabar, who also won his age division, he shared feedback on the competition.
Today marked the inaugural North West St. Andrew Chess Tournament!!!! Over 176 students participated in a today’s competition. It was great seeing everyone enjoy themselves and share ideas to make the event even bigger and better. Already looking forward to 2027! ♟️
I am especially saddened to learn of the passing of Imru N. Khouri. A vibrant young Jamaican who devoted himself wholeheartedly to his community and to the people around him. His passion for service, his leadership, and the relationships he built left a lasting impression on many.
My thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, and colleagues as they grieve this tremendous loss. In moments like these, we are reminded how precious life is and how important it is to cherish those we love while we can.
May Imru rest in peace, and may his memory continue to inspire all who knew him.
