@nishberlin Sometimes I’m in between saying that Gen Z is stronger because a lot of what we can do is thanks to technology while baby boomers did not have the same affordance of getting things done quicker and better with how seamless technology makes our everyday lives.
@NoahPhilipose I agree, this trend of saying ok boomer is always used to show you disagree with their way of thinking or doing things because of the huge generational gap we have with them. Definitely a good example of two generations feuding.
not come as easily as they do now due to how bad the job market was at one point. I think most people my age would agree that we will leave a job if we are not happy while our parents may not have done the same thing. As Hampton and Wellman discuss, we agree to disagree #DCIM352
This is a great example of how two generations view the concept of staying at one job for multiple years. Millennials and Gen Z simply refuse to stay a job that makes them unhappy while baby boomers are more likely to stay at one job for loyalty reasons or simply cause jobs did
@Kjbarnes0 I agree that was interesting to see being that you know they were very much aware of what comes with using social media. So many of us are so attached to our phones.
@Laura29916189 Hey Laura, even before watching this it was always clear that there was an algorithm that was responsible for what we see when scrolling on our phones. I looked up furniture one time and Instagram keeps showing me furniture liquidators and stores nonstop. It’s really wild.
@nishberlin This is so true. I also thought it is very creepy how much they probably have access to and shows that most companies will do anything for a dollar.
information from us through the content we like or share on sites like Facebook, Instagram, or even this very platform, Twitter. It’s creepy how companies can always use our information to their advantage. #dcim352
I think what really caught my interest in #TheSocialDilemma was seeing how social media platforms are always using the content we view or information from other apps to give us personalized ads. It’s nice that we can turn the feature off but they still harvest #dcim352
@JonathanPannul1 Minecraft is really a great example. I know a lot of people that play it and put a lot of hours into it to make their creations look good.
@Julia84887451 This just may be the best example because I personally play the sims often and you can really put a lot of hours into it. I do so much to make my characters look realistic with downloadable content and mods where it sometimes feels like I’m doing that more than playing the game🤣
Players could also pay for VIP and have access to exclusive clothings and dances to customize their characters. A lot of the nicer customizations cost more coinz so it required more work to be put into the game. #dcim352
A game that was highly addictive for me when I was younger was Meez and I think it’s a great example of immaterial labor. In this game, players could customize their characters by earning “coinz” by playing mini games or doing activities in the multiple worlds. #dcim352
@Sharmee95198527 This is definitely been a well known counterpublic across the years. The NAACP does well to bring black people together and find ways to push back against racism experienced in many aspects of life.
@danibuhain This is a great example on both fronts. The LGBTQ+ community have many different organizations across the world that bring them together and can raise awareness about the hardships they face daily.
@prathapatelru I think this is a great example as it would really help others not familiar with Indian culture to learn about different foods, holidays, and events and hopefully help prevent people from the outside from being offensive.
This shows how Renninger mentioned polymedia in relation to counterpublics. It is important to use different platforms for different purposes. Black Girls Code has Twitter for interaction, especially with other organizations and their website is where those interested register.
Black Girls Code is a counter public that helps young black girls develop skills related to STEM careers. This organization is amazing because black girls are known to be marginalized and underhired in Comp Sci, Math, and Engineer related careers. #DCIM352
They communicate online through social media @BlackGirlsCode and their website https://t.co/P9cr1nu4x5 where they post various events such as panels, introduction to various computer programming languages, hackathons, and more STEM related conversations catered to them. #DCIM352
