I think back to this observation from last year. The Canes are such a good defensive team because their ability to force teams to give up the puck at their blue line. Combination of forward back pressure and their D being mobile and focused on gap control. Very well coached!

I wonder if those high on D. Maye are “sampling on the dependent variable”. That is, they look at Herbert and Allen and equate being raw with size and arm talent as key elements of their success while disregarding the many with similar traits that didn’t pan out. Food for thought

@TheHonestNFL The difference is the ability to backpedal (or skate backwards) from a cold start. Much easier to get flat-footed in hockey and lose angles (like this) given the difficulty to go from zero to 60 backwards w/o momentum. A DB can backpedal & turn hips efficiently from a standstill
