Donald Trump wants unlimited power, is utterly corrupt, and has contempt for the Constitution, the rule of law, and us.
Trump IS the tyrant the Founders feared.
When I heard about Senator Graham’s death last night, the first thing I thought about was not all the things he said and did in service of Donald Trump. I thought of the time before Donald Trump when he was a brother to Senator John McCain.
A time when senators from different parties could fight about politics and still be friends. A time when a conservative Republican from South Carolina could say of my father: “If you can’t admire Joe Biden as a person, you’ve got a problem. He’s the nicest person I’ve ever met in politics. As good a man as God ever created.”
That is the Senator Graham I will remember today. Not because I have forgotten what came after. Because in that memory there is hope. Hope for a country where brothers can fight like hell over policy and still share a meal, and a laugh, and the loss of the people they love.
I will choose to remember the time before Trump. Because I believe in an America after Trump.
@atrupar Has Mr. Greer considered that tariffs in a newly industrializing economy trying to compete with a larger one (Britain in 1860) might make more sense than in a mature America whose economy depends on free trade and which has seen manufacturing jobs shrink to under 15% of all jobs?
@LaurieOzz I despised him when he WAS a Democrat. He's been a known asshole in New York and New Jersey since the early 1970s. It is not random chance that he's never come close to winning in either state. They know him and aren't fooled by him for a NY fucking minute.
@NancyMace I don't recall the actual name of the false appeal, but isn't denying that the lesser of two evils isn't still evil a false appeal?
Enjoy your retirement from electoral politics. I know I will.
@Notwokenow Speaking as a Democrat (what some idiots would call Communist scum that hate America), you may be one of those idiots who call Democrats communist scum who hate America.
Just an "idiotic" question: how does sowing division make America stronger? When did it ever?
I signed paid sick leave into law to ensure more than one million workers — full-time and part-time — can take care of themselves and their families without losing a paycheck.
No one in Virginia should have to choose between their health and their paycheck.
@realBrandonGill It's not cool to advocate for oligarchy or for executive overreach. To do that is to misunderstand America, and maybe to hate America.
@sharonpwrites@DougWahl1 When the ICE agents who killed Rene Good and Alex Pretti are charged and convicted of second degree murder or voluntary manslaugher, I'll agree with you.
Yes, as I’ve said from the very beginning, Platner is a scumbag, and the Nazi tattoo should’ve been the end of him politically.
But this is also true: If Platner were a Republican, and week after week women came forward with evidence of rape or sexual abuse, he’d lie about each woman, he’d attack the media & scream “fake news,” his fellow Republican colleagues would stand by him, and Republican voters would still enthusiastically vote for him.
@ScottJenningsKY The bright red line was accusation of sexual assault. Once that was crossed, it was morally easy to call for Platner's resignation over voter's wills. Until then, he was accused of being unfaithful and a boor. Much like Ken Paxton, except not corrupt, and never impeached.
