But we’d rather leave the current season open to finish waivers/free agency for 1 additional week (week 18) for stash candidates. Then we can effectively start our Off-Season and lock the FA period

This may sound simple, but the Titans need to choose a direction as a franchise.

They spent massive in free agency last year, acting like a team that felt it was on the precipice of competing for the playoffs: signing Calvin Ridley, Lloyd Cushenberry, trading for L'Jarius Sneed, etc.

But did so with a QB who was a developmental project and clearly was not ready to be the QB of such a team.

They own the #1 pick this year and are in desperate need of a QB. Are you committed to developing a young QB? Are the veteran contracts all over the roster players you plan to stick with during the development?

The plan has been rudderless.

It's past time to figure it out.

@andyholloway They were more explosive/dangerous offensively in the 3.5 games without Monty. But over an entire season, I would worry about the workload and injury risk for a Gibbs-only backfield.

My overall reaction to the Vrabel firing in light of some of the additional information from this piece:

I am thrilled that Amy Adams-Strunk's vision for the future of the #Titans involves embracing analytics and modernizing the entire organization's approach to the game of football. That's fantastic and something I've been asking for since at least 2016. It seems like that is the direction that she and Carthon are headed.

The fact that Vrabel didn't align with that vision is understandable. He skews towards an old school approach, which is okay, and was pretty effective for him overall, but it's not the direction that the league, and now the Titans, are headed. I get it even though I believe he's a great football coach.

When AAS fired Robinson and kept Vrabel, everyone assumed that Vrabel would at least get *some* level of say in the GM search. It sounds like that didn't happen. In fact, it seems that Vrabel's opinion, when it was voiced, was met with contempt from ownership.

I understand Vrabel's frustration with that. I also agree with AAS in that Vrabel should *not* have been given full roster control. He hadn't earned it, and even if he had, that set up has failed spectacularly pretty much every time it's been implemented even with more proven coaches.

It's concerning that the process to get us to this point was so messy. It's not a great look on ownership or Vrabel that petty non-sense became a part of the calculus here. I think some transparency and accountability would be nice from this football team for once given all that's happened over the past couple of seasons.

My hope is that moving forward, they're able to find a coach that aligns with that vision and gets along well with Carthon. Every head coach to ever pass through the NFL was a "hot name" at some point. Most of them fail to achieve long-lasting success. Maybe they hire the next Sean McVay, maybe they hire the next Adam Gase. Who knows, but whatever happens next, it's time for everyone at Saint Thomas Sports Park to be rowing in the same direction.

@DrJesseMorse Pretty even trade today. Hockenson has more upside than Goedert, but I worry about Rhamondre’s longevity. Patriots might add another RB this year, only two seasons before he’s seeking another contract that he won’t get in NE, and weak draft capital. I prefer Najee/Goedert IMO

He puts Burks, Philips, etc. into roles more fitting their experience/skill level. Makes a huge difference.
