@loobah_l@mattyglesias It's hard for me to get too outraged at marginalized people doing this sort of thing, when powerful people rip us all off day in day out every which way but sideways. In a better society all transit would be free.
@deathweasel Not getting social cues must be so hard - like, why on earth is he upset? What did I say? Do you have some kind of coach to help you with social skills? We had one for my son for a while and it definitely seemed to help.
During meditation today I was overwhelmed as I found myself touching the intense suffering of *so* many souls, past, present and future. But towards the end this suffering merged with so many other deep feelings into a rich song of love, God's love and compassion.
@deathweasel Yes I have been out in rural America and education is terrible, no real sense of purpose or mastery, heavy drug use, very little mental health support. It's heartbreaking.
I have to say it's disturbing how the party that insists that the election was stolen has so much traction.
It doesn't help that our Democratic Party continues to flail at authentically connecting with the working class.
Bonnie Raitt's I Can't Make You Love Me is legitimately one of the saddest things anyone has ever made. I played it for storytelling students last semester and they were like, what're you trying to do to us π

@deathweasel It's a great question. I think we need to invite and listen to people from communities that are suffering and feel they don't have a voice. Check our egos at the door and listen. Work with them to build policies.
We are not only seeing high levels of COVID, but we are also seeing surges in several respiratory viruses all at once.
Masks work against all airborne viruses. Why are we willfully ignoring valuable lessons of the last two years just to go "back to normal"?
My son's pediatrician just sent this email to his whole practice. I didn't know that pediatric units at many hospitals across the country are at capacity. Did you?
Why isn't the press covering this?
@MarcJBrooker Amazing how much of these same principles apply to teams building software. Better to drop the work rather than continuing to promise you will service it. And of course better to not let the queues build up in the first place.
