One thing people may not realize is that long before the Platinum Jubilee, there was a running joke among people connected with the Royal Household about what the Queen carried in her handbag.

It was the universal conversation changer. If things got too serious, someone would say, ‘So…what do you think Her Majesty has in her handbag?’ Everyone had a theory. Mine was always a ham sandwich. Someone else would insist it had to be peanut butter and jelly because ham would spoil.

On that day when the sketch appeared and the Queen opened her handbag for Paddington and produced a marmalade sandwich, I didn’t just laugh. I had the overwhelming feeling that she was saying, ‘I knew about the joke all along.

Most people saw a funny sketch. I saw something different.

I saw a woman with an extraordinary sense of humor who was willing, at the end of her reign, to laugh with everyone instead of maintaining the mystique.

It felt like a final wink, a way of saying, ‘Yes, I knew. Thank you for laughing with me.’

Looking back, because it was her last Jubilee, it also carried a poignancy I didn’t fully appreciate until after she was gone.

Instead of making me sad, it made me laugh and still does.

It’s a reminder of how wonderful she was not just as a Queen, but as a person and especially to those she worked around. 🥰

South Korea (July 13–15, 2026): Primarily in Seoul and the Paju area. Key focus is commemorating the 75th anniversary of the Battle of the Imjin River, honoring British soldiers who fought in the 1950–53 Korean War.

Thailand (July 16–17, 2026): Bangkok and surrounding areas. Including:

Visiting a school supported by Save the Children Thailand, An audience with Thailand’s Prime Minister. Audiences with King Maha Vajiralongkorn and Queen Suthida; Paying respects to the late Queen Sirikit, the Queen Mother, Meetings with Thai female scientists, Attend a regional health security showcase. + Events celebrating UK–Thailand cultural cooperation.

Amidst the insane inanity of the Harry and Meghan Dog & Pony Show, another bitch of the human kind (I have two Cavalier King Charles bitches and they have the sweetest natures, so one hesitates to insult them without drawing attention to the distinction in species) has received her public comeuppance.

I refer to the brilliantly executed lesson Taylor Swift has just taught the mother of her three godchildren, whose use and misuse of her was so public that it begged for a public reaction. And while it has been some time in coming, it has come.

I was told by a Hollywood A-Lister that Taylor Swift, a lady who does not like being crossed and always gets her own back, chose the tactics of the Medici since she could not sully her songs with the bitter draught she was serving up to Blake Lively. So she chose the quiet alleyways of the press to plunge the knife into the woman whom, I am told, she regards as having abused their friendship (a sentiment with which I agree, although I am a mere outsider and only know what I am being told by people in the know).

Evidently her 'people' encouraged the speculation whether Blake and Ryan Reynolds would be asked to the wedding. This was mortifying for the ghastly Lively and her equally dreadful pyromaniac husband Ryan Reynolds, for they couldn't very well respond.

Then, just when the interest was waning, her 'people' piled further humiliation on Blake and Ryan, leaking the news that they had indeed been invited. This ratcheted up interest before Taylor's 'people' not so swiftly extended the torture, eventually leaking the information that in fact the living embodiment of one of Macbeth's three witches had NOT been invited.

Evidently Taylor Swift, who is a neighbour in London of friends of mine as well as known to friends of mine in Hollywood. knew that for all their pretentions, neither Blake Lively nor Ryan Reynolds could pull off the coup de grace which would show to what extent they were now heading towards the Z list.

Who better to make the point that today's woman bests yesterday's faux sexual harassment victim and full time witch with a b? Enter stage left Prince William, who couldn't make the wedding owing to royal commitments, but provided the couple with a present no amount of money could buy: International Ratification in the form of joining the groom and the groom's brother in a podcast.

I think we should all consider nominating Taylor Swift for Revenge Artist of the Year.

Phillip apologises to both Catherine and James, for sharing what was a moment that should have been theirs to take ownership of and decide for themselves how they wanted to share it.

Phillip says a number of media outlets have contacted him, seeking permission to share the content.
Phillip respectfully declines to give permission, but instead makes the content available to the Princess of Wales and her media team to use.
