Reason is “calling out” the Liberals for preferencing the far-right Angry Victorians above Labor. But Reason is doing exactly the same thing.
In Western Victoria, Reason has Angry Victorians above Labor and the Greens. In Northern Victoria it has them above the Greens.🧵
Victorian Socialists' state election candidates on our vision for a society that puts people before profit, and why you should VOTE 1 Victorian Socialists this November and elect a socialist to parliament to fight for real change. 1/3
At yesterday's VS members conference, we preselected candidates for the Nov state election. We're particularly excited to announce upper house candidates Jerome Small for Northern Metro & Liz Walsh for Western Metro – seats where we think we have a realistic chance of winning.
We'll be running candidates in all upper house regions, as well as the 22 lower house districts falling within the western & northern metro regions – a terrific group of committed socialist activists including @aranmylvaganam, @VicSoc4Cooper, @Claudio4Lalor, @ddadich, @roztward
This election and the broader success of VS in Melbourne have shown the potential to do so much more, and we're looking towards the the state election where we have a real chance to win a position or two. Come out to Coburg Lake next Sunday get involved: https://t.co/XF5SOES5Hu
VS Maribyrnong volunteers collapsed in a heap last week, and forgot to provide an update earlier. So far we've gotten 1,556 votes amounting to 2.1%. When we could campaign in-person at the prepoll or polling day booths this went up significantly, even to 6.4% in Ascot Vale East).
Happily, the Morrison government was ousted, and Victorian Socialists and other left-wing parties made significant gains votes. Sadly, Labor hacks like Bill Shorten are still in power, and far-right micro-parties combined for over 12% of first preference votes in Maribyrnong.
Our candidate @ddadich came across Bill Shorten at prepoll. Dadich is long-term anti-racist and refugee activist, and a social worker who works with refugees and asylum seekers. He decided to ask Shorten about Labor's stance on refugees. Part of the exchange is captured here.
