Reform UK Call For Full Transparency Over Devolution & Labour Plans For Thurrock To Join London

Thurrock Council have confirmed in writing that there have been discussions between Thurrock’s Labour Leader, Cllr John Kent and Essex County Council about Thurrock becoming a London Borough under the control of Labour’s London Mayor Sadiq Khan. Reform UK are now calling on Thurrock Labour Leader John Kent to publish all communications and briefings he’s had regarding devolution and reorganisation.

Thurrock Reform Councillor, Alex Anderson said: "The public are being taken for a ride by Labour and the Conservatives. First, they teamed up to cancel elections in Thurrock and keep themselves in power until 2028. They are acting like tinpot dictators, cancelling democracy so they can continue receiving over £600,000 in tax-payer funded allowances.

"Now we find out they’re having conversations in private about Thurrock becoming a London Borough. Meanwhile, Labour cabinet members smear anyone who raises the subject in public as a liar.

"The public have lost confidence in Thurrock Labour, they were in charge of the Council when the disastrous investments started. We can’t believe anything they tell us, it’s time for them to release all communications and briefings regarding the future of Thurrock. Once the public sees what they’ve been up to behind the scenes, they can fairly come to their own conclusion.

"At the moment, Thurrock Labour and the Conservatives in Essex are talking about this in secret, only a vote for Reform sends a clear message that we never want to join Sadiq Khan‘s London"
