@hutchinson Didn't add all of Cuomos votes together.
30% dem Cuomo voter = approx 240,000
Pure R vote = 762,000
Mamdani expected total approx 1,274,600
Republican expected total approx 762,000
63% total overall vote going to D in NYC
56.3% going to D in NJ vs 63% to D NYC - better margins
@hutchinson Exit polling showed that Cuomo took about 30% of the dem vote. Which wouldve pushed mamdani to 80% of the dem vote if he had alone. Which is what the other two races dynamics looked like. Which means that despite running against another dem mamdani had more excitement in the base
@Qwertyfortie@hutchinson Also its born out exactly as described by the exit polling Cuomo took approx 30% of the democrats vote which would have pushed mamdani had he run as the sole democratic candidate to approx 80%
@Qwertyfortie@hutchinson Do you think that if the NJ and VA governors races had the same dynamics as the NYC mayoral race they would have turned out the same way?
@hutchinson Mamdanis lead would have been 80 something percent. Cuomo is also one of the most recognizable dem figures nationally and was completely dominating the polls at the beginning of the race. If the base of the dems wasn't overwhelmingly behind his message Cuomo would've had 0 issues
@hutchinson Hard disagree there. The VA & NJ races were between a dem and and republican. NYC's was between 2 dems and a republican. Adding on to that Mamdani came from 1% polling at the beginning of the race to absolute domination by the end. If NYC's race was comparable to the 2 others -
@hutchinson Imo dems need to adopt the republican strategy of running the most far left candidate they can in any race. In my home state that may be someone who's most radical belief is that the minimum wage should be tied to inflation. Whereas in a place like CA that may be M4A etc.
@hutchinson I'd say bc he was running against both party establishments at the same time & won. Idk that Dems nationally should fully adopt his politics, they should 100% see that in order to win you need to have an energized base + VA & NJ have large fed employment which played a huge role
@HLC_actual Also this is not to say that I hold the current administration at 100% fault. Biden escalation management made this conflict drag on and he should be criticized for that as well. But the current administration has seen it as an opportunity to completely disengage and run.
@HLC_actual Wish I could agree with your assessment. But the only outcome i can see is the end of American influence around the world, and an empowered Russia and China. Even if the European rearmament is a good thing we have invited our geopolitical enemies into our house. Appeasement again
@Atlanticist_ I'm sure we disagree a ton on domestic policy. Full bleeding heart liberal in my case but I am glad that there are still conservatives that recognize the need for an American lead world order.
