It all comes down to @umichbball vs @ArizonaMBB for 1st place in the Dexter family pool…
Me & Michigan vs @BarackObama & Arizona — best of luck, Mr. President 🤝
“William, CBS has a new crime show and they feel you’re perfect for it.”
“Great, what’s it called?”
“Jake and the Fatman.”
“I’m not going to be Jake, am I?”
“You will, in fact, not be Jake.”
@BerbarianWizard I’m wondering, what qualifies as a “high-carb + high-fat meal”? Like, is there some absolute amount of Fat and/or Carbs? Or some ratio? Something else?
From your other posts, I gather there’s maybe no upper limit on Carbs — so, perhaps it’s more a function of Fats…?
One of the most successful deceptions of our time was getting many Americans to fear diversity more than racism, equality more than misogyny, democracy more than fascism, immigrants more than authoritarians, the poor more than corrupt billionaires, and empathy more than cruelty.
@BerbarianWizard • Read 1 and 2 — not 3 [yet]
• SO many important things — how easily dietary fat is stored, Randle Cycle, etc etc etc
• Changed how deliberate I’ve been abt food choices
Question: How do we know DNL of carbs is so rare? E.g. normally less than 1% of carbs consumed.
TY
The guy who gets paid to call elections (and has been whiffing) and then tried to mock a simple observation that turned out to be correct calls me dumb (sic). Tell me Nate, what’s dumber my call last night and observation about commodities traders (sic) or your prediction salad-mouthed (sic) Kamala Harris was going to be prez?
The late 20th century was weird.
Things are returning to what is historically normal, in at least 3 ways.
Nations and empires on the move, attacking each other. No more "post-war consensus" or "rules-based international order."
In a similar way, politics becomes high stakes again. Managed liberal democracy with near-identical parties giving way to actual struggles over power.
Mass of people don't read and are led by a small literate elite. Oral storytelling (this time via video) becomes normal way of communicating ideas again.
High religiosity among all classes. Mass atheism was a blip. And not just any religions. The more traditional ones.
Get used to being back in normal history.
I liked the world better when the news came on for 30 minutes and then we did other shit for 23 1/2 hours. Now it follows you around all day like a hobo begging for change.
Clavicular is the perfect example of our behavioral paradox of extreme asceticism being made to look like excess and decadence.
Clavicular engages in extreme mortification of the flesh, he literally hits himself with a hammer. He goes on pilgrimages to preach and demonstrate to others the superiority of his particular monastic practices. He made himself infertile and is most likely celibate in reality.
At any other point in history he would be understood to be a monk, an eccentric monk perhaps, but a monk nonetheless. But in today's hyper secular-ascetic society he is thought of as a sort of decadent philanderer living a life of excess. He is not.
He is also the perfect example of the folly of secular-asceticism. All his mortification of the flesh is offered to a worthless and pointless cause, so no spiritual or godly fruit is produced.
The pointless sacrifice or the sacrifice being offered for an unworthy cause is what confuses people because it makes it look like he is not actually a monk. But he absolutely is. Not only is he a monk but a flagellant at that.
kind of funny that an olympian said they are here to represent "compassion, respect, love for others" and some people automatically know that's a statement against them
